A bunch of newbies with new airplanes beyond their skills trying to fly.
I seen these activities at my local parks yesterday. Guessing they got these airplanes for Christmas.
I should have gone out and help the poor newbies. No time though.

Next will be longer lines at the gyms for all of the New Years resolutions.

Yep, dreading that one. It's hard enough as it is to get an open lane in the pool.

M_beeson never seen one of those before. What size Motor and Lipo required. PLease explain.

Mine used to run on Twinkies and Ho Ho's but I've had to switch to McDonalds.

Not a big fan of the McD's; they seem to lose power quickly and the fall off is immediate. The batts need to rest before recharging.

I've also noticed a slight puffiness that wasn't as noticable before the swap.

Yeah, the fact that high-quality, truly RTF, affordable aircraft are readily available means that every years produces a fresh batch of newbies. Not that that's a bad thing of course; I was a n00b at one point too but that's back in the glow-powered days, or what I like to call "the dark years".

Yep, they pop up at the sports fields where I fly sometimes, usually a dad and his son. They head to the opposite end of the field and the dad proceeds to destroy his sons Christmas/birthday present with a series of increasingly desperate dorked hand launches. The thought process (if there is one) seems to be 'if it didn't fly last time throw it harder and higher!'

Once the plane is thoroughly destroyed they trudge away never to be seen again.

In the days before 2.4GHz I'd have gone over and checked what frequency they were on, but these days I just leave them to it. I do feel guilty for not offering to lend a hand but I figure if they wanted help they would come over and ask for it, I don't like to stick my nose in uninvited....

What would you do?

I bought my nephews quadcopters for christmas.
The were able to fly them in the frontroom, so I thought they could keep them out of the trees at the park down the street. NOT!!

I also told them to always turn on the Tx first. NOT!
One kid plugged in his quad with the Tx off and his bro was already flying.
The Quad bound to his bros Tx and flew out of his hand!

So far, a quad in a tree, every day since christmas.

I didn't even think of that. I'm about to go fly my Slipso at a big ole field by the lake, and now I'm thinking maybe I'll see some failed Christmas presents trying to fly

It's always the model's fault, too. I predict zero percent of the planes destroyed in the next few days (some of which we'll inevitably hear about here after their consumers type "RC Plane Help" into Google) will have crashed due to setup or pilot error. They just "randomly turned left and went into a nose dive", or "just wouldn't go up, even though I was giving it full up elevator when I threw it". Pieces of junk

I was in my LHS just before Christmas. There was a couple of ladies trying to figure out a plane to get one of their husbands. They were asking what would be a good starter plane and what is the difference between balsa/foam. The sales associate sells them the new Eflite Albatros ARF. The new one. The Balsa one. $300.00 smackers. There's a sucker born every minute. I was one too.
