Micro Mite plus 10 years

It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years since RC Micro Flight published the original version of the Micro Mite. In honor of it's 10 year anniversary I decided to build a full fuselage version using currently available equipment. First off that meant using servos instead of actuators. The servos are Hobby King 5320's with a Del Tang RX34. This was my first model with a Del Tang receiver. I'm very impressed with the receiver and have already bought two more for upcoming projects. Battery is the Lectron 100 Mah sold as a replacement for the Estes Proto-X with a Didel magnetic connector. Prop is a 3.2 inch carbon from R/C Foam that has been cut down to 2 inches. The prop adapter was home made. Motor is the Parkzone J-3 running direct drive. Flying weight is 17.7 grams. The profile version using actuators flew at about the same weight. I built a full fuselage version with actuators around 2005 that weighed 20 grams and it flew very well. With a built up wing and weighing a couple grams less I expected this one to fly great and it did. I made the maiden flight this morning. It handles like the Peanut Mite but seems a little faster. I can't decide if it's actually flying faster or just seems to be because of the smaller size. In either case it's very well behaved and I'm pleased with it.

Ralph, that is lovely. I really should build one some day. I have the laser and lots of balsa plus several boxes of Esaki tissue.

I agree you should build one. If you do you won't be sorry.

The original plan is at www.parmodels.com

I did not update the plan for this build I just used the basic outlines from the original and built from there.

Thanks. The DXF opens up fine in Turbocad to making a cut file for the laser will be a quick job.

Wingspan, just for reference?

I'm in for this, but building will have to wait until Summer subsides - too dang hot in my garage and wifey don't allow no bildin' in the house!!

The original was 7.75 inches but I stretched this one to 8 inches. As far as video goes I won't have anybody that can do it until the middle of October. I may have to get a GoPro with a head strap.

Gordon:

I think this one will be the best flying Micro Mite so far as a result of the built up wing. The extra effort was well worth it. I still need to fine tune the trim a little then I hope to be able to post a video in the next week or two.
