Schweizer 1-36 Sprite

I bought this partially completed model from Tom Martin Radio Control many years ago and finally got it put together and ready to fly. As we have all been instructed, I have taken the beauty shots before the first flight. This is especially advisable since this is a completely untested airframe. The model I bought from Tom is the prototype for a line he chose not to produce. So this model is unique in a literal sense. There is no other like it in the world.

Nice fiberglass fuse, obeechi covered foam core wings. 1:5 scale, 110" wingspan, 106 ounces (6 lbs, 10 ounces) for a 19.6 oz./sq. ft. wing loading.

Functioning dive brakes that are fully mechanical (no rubber bands or magnets). Aerotow release.

The canopy was a poor fit, so I just taped it on. The plane was never intended to be a beauty queen, and once it's in the air you'll never notice the tape.

As soon as the wind is right, I plan to take it to the local hill and throw it off.

Outstanding! I used to fly the full size one out of Boulder, Colorado. It would thermal well but when you put the nose down, it went down. Fun flying single seat ship, though.

Dave,

see this link

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...erosent&page=2

for, maybe, another one of a kind, literally speaking

aerosente offered me the prototype half kit of the 1:4 1-36 for a beta build - which went pretty well until the latter part of last year when an illness and subsequent recent loss occurred in the family. This kept me and my wife away from home quite frequently and thus, the building speed decreased considerably. However I am determined to continue and I do hope to finish later in the summer. The to-do-list comprises "only" the remake of the airbrake doors and the cutting of the ailerons and the finish ...

Happy landings!!!

Herbert

Hi Dave, I have the "other" Sprite that Tom did not go into production for. He had two fuses made, I have one and you have the other. Great glass work BTW. Have fun. I am sure the airframe will do great!
