Gear Ratios

If I wanted to get my Savage to hook up and do wheelies what would be
the best gear ratio of the Clutch Bell and the Spur Gear to use?

Now what if I wanted speed?

The smaller the clutchbell and the bigger the spur, the faster the
acceleration - urgo the more wheelies. The larger the bell and the smaller
the spur, the more top end and the less acceleration. Think about it like a
peddle bike What engine are you running? The S25 should just about
wheelie on 15/49, it should deffo do it on 15/52. My K4.6 would wheelie on
16/48 - but i've richened the bottom end and have supersoft suspension to
stop it - wheelies are something everyone should play with for a bit, cos
they are fun - but they do get boring quiet quickly - especially if you're
trying to drag race Another thing that affects them more than you'd
think is the stiffness of the back suspension - the stiffer it is the more
likely to are to get wheelies.

My truck has the S-25 motor, 15/49 gearing (stock), Motorsaver air filter,
HPI polished pipe and Dirt Bonz Tires. I also have a ton of aluminum parts
and it weighs much more than a stock Savage RTR. It will flip itself over
on it's lid every time you mash the throttle and will run controlled
wheelies into third gear. I was playing this weekend and was popping
forward wheelies, then hitting the brakes and doing an endo, then back on
the gas for another wheelie........I walked it accross my backyard like
that, pretty fun.

If you're running the stock tires that came with the S-25, lose them quick!
They are very, very heavy and kill your take off as well as handling. If
you go with the Bonz or a similar tire the increase in bottom end and
handling will be HUGE. If you're running the stock composite pipe lose it
as well and go with HPI ribbed (loud) or HPI Polished. Both are cheap and
both have lots of bottom end and great top end as well.

After switching tires and pipes if you're still not wheelie-ing, it's a
tuning issue and not a gearing issue. Those who state "an S-25 won't
wheelie" (and there are lots of them) just don't know how to tune correctly.

Yea he's right - i've seen an S25 pop wheelies on stock pipe and
wheels/tyres so on the better bits they should do it easy.

Re: Gear Ratios

I am running the S25 engine - stock pipe and stock tires. Can I just
buy the HPI Dirt Bonz tires and they will fit the stock rims or do I
need to buy new rims also? Are the ribbed pipes louder or quiter? Or
does the pipe just help with performance? I like the sound it has with
the stock pipe. It sounds tough.

The bonz will fit the stock tires, but you'll have to cut the old ones off
and then glue the bonz to them. You'd be better off just buying the tires
and wheels new and assembling. It's nice to have the stockers around as a
set for mud bogging and huge jumping as the Bonz are more of a dry traction
tire and don't have as much "smoosh" as the stockers.

I can make some recommendations if you're interested. There's one guy I buy
off of on E-Bay alot and he has awesome low prices. The ribbed pipe is MUCH
louder than stock, the polished pipe is a wee bit quieter. The sound is
pretty much the same with all the pipes (composite, ribbed, polished), just
the volume level is different. The pipes definitely help with peformance.
Even though the polished pipe is quieter than stock, it still drowns out
anything else I run with.

The sellers name is nitronutzz and his store is located here:

http://stores.ebay.com/NITRONUTZZ

I get just about all of my Savage stuff from him as his prices are great and
shipping is insanely fast. He basically parts out new Savage kits, so most
of the stuff he has is OEM and a great source for replacement parts/repair
parts, etc.

Tower sells the Bonz for about $25 a pair; he sells a set of four for the
same price. He also has the 4.6 wheels for a great price.
