Cool
10 Foot Indoor C-47 Now with build pictures added

Hey Everyone,

South Plains Electric Flyers in West Texas has a few guys building giant scale aircraft capable of flying indoors. First it was sr71fan with a 5 Foot Cessna 402. Then came along three 6 Foot planes, UAVPilot's Spacewalker, MichaelConnally's TriPacer, and R&RRC's A-10 WartHog. Gary (sr71fan) followed with the 7 Foot B-36 Peacemaker, and then Reegan responded with his 8 Foot B-17.

Now Gary, one of the most creative and talented builders has thrown in his newest challenge. An Awesome 10 Foot wingspan C-47. Ya'll enjoy.

Guts?

Cruiser1,

It's kinda' like ski jumping... you don't start with a big jump. I started with a Pico Stik in a gymnasium, and worked my way up.

Here's a video taken by David stoner at the event. I took the previous video of Reegan flying it.

Very few people have the skill required to build a scale plane with a ten foot wingspan that would be considered a park flyer.

Loved the video.

I want to see it fly outdoors! Looks very scale. So pretty!
Any chance we'll get a build thread or drawings?

sadkingbilly,

Oh yes, I'm sure sr71fan will have some outdoor video that he will share with us. Soon as the wind stops blowing here in West Texas that is!

RogueTitan,

We would really like to claim fame to this awesome plane, but it really belongs to sr71fan. Gary did let Reegan fly it, and Moms table got a rest this time.

Gary is a fantastic builder, and our club has learned so much from this talented guy. He's the one that started this madness of building giant scale indoor flying planes! I wonder if a larger than 10 foot wingspan plane can even turn in that building. Hmm.., Mom's table may be pushed back into service! Stay tuned..., we will see.

Thanks for you kind words,
Royce

OMG that's the most scale flying model I think I've ever seen. What does it weigh?

Sadkingbilly,

I'll post the outdoor test-flight in a few minutes.

I used a 3-view drawing for the wing and tailfeathers. The fuselage and nacelles required a little help from the Fiddlers Green card model drawings. The airfoil is a 15% thick flatbottom with the high point at 30% chord. I might do a build thread if I can find time.

Royce,

Thanks for the nice words, but I'm sure if Reegan had time (busy in college), he could blow this thing away!

Grejen,

It weighs 5.4 pounds (2.452kg) at the moment. After some more detailing, I think it'll still be under 6 (2.724kg).

Thanks everyone!

Gary
