Berg 7p RSSI experiment.
I had a old berg 7p laying around, this use to be my go to receiver for FPV back some years ago. I always had the stock configuration antenna (39") and transmitted with a futaba 7cap (72 MHz). Today I dug out the old berg and decided to do some tests on rssi. I installed a 52" length antenna to start, the same wire diameter, and reduced the length in 1" increments and recorded rssi. I did not have enough of this wire to do a full 1/2 wave unfortunately, perhaps I will buy some more and try this as well. The transmitter was fully charged at least 100 ft away sitting inside my girlfriends jeep outside 2 other cars were parked in front of the jeep. antenna of the futaba tx would be intersecting the plane of the aerial of the berg 7p(Think of a T) that was located in my basement (concrete walls separated by 2 walls going outside.
Here are my results. 2 servos plugged into berg, align brushless running full speed approx. 8" away from aerial of rx.
TX next to the Rx antennas facing the same direction 1.528v
TX outside in the jeep.
I tried to create less then ideal conditions to measure this. If anyone has any suggestions perhaps I can give it another go. Based on my findings with the wire I had 51" was providing the best signal. I am trying to come to a balance between a "Reasonable" length antenna and signal strength. if you understand what I mean.
Thoughts on the matter guys? Perhaps some of you smart RF guys can chime in here!
