New 28mm Planetary Gearbox - Mega PG28-3.0KW

Got my hands on a new toy from the Czech republic, its nice

I dont have many of the details, and the battery in my verniers just died, but will update this thread when I get them all

28mm diameter with a 6mm shaft, 6:1 Ratio, 48g dry

Its quite a clever, well machined, and very tough looking little unit!

All the planets use roller bearings, with steel cages. The output shaft is supported by 2 bearings, the rear one being a thrust type bearing. Similar to the Neu/Leomotion P29 it uses a pinion machined into the motors shaft, so will need to be purchased with a motor. At least there wont be the problem of busting pinions off shafts

Unlike the KPG Box, there is no washer that retains the planetary gears, the adapter plates covers that job. The forward housing of the gearbox threads into the adapter plate, but then is secured with 2 grubs screws through the forward plate, making for a much more mechanically secured box. No "Jesus" tape needed! Also much less swearing when dissasembly..

Also unlike many other boxes, the adapter plate is raised/cutout around the cooling holes in the motors forward cap! Yet the whole assembly is still around 2mm shorter than a KPG25. Clever.

Without having tested it yet, Im confident it'll take pretty much whatever a 28mm motor can throw at it!

Looks good. Interested to know the exact diameter across the box where the "grip" marks are cut in.

Any idea of the type/quality of the lube it comes with?

28.3mm in the knurled section. Infront of that it tapers down to around 25mm. The lube that came with it was a light machine oil, similar to the kontroniks factory stuff.

Wow! Looks like a great design! But how did you get the ring gear out? And what keeps the planets from hitting the motor screws?

Ring gear is secured as the adapter plate is screwed into the forward housing, and the grub screws are tightened. It sits slightly proud of the housing so is clamped between the two. With the adapter plate unscrewed, the shaft/planets and ring gear can all come apart with finger pressure

The aft bearing housing is the only part that might require some tooling to dissemble, as it appears to be a press fit onto the (beefy!) shaft

The screws that attach the adapter plate to motor are countersunk, and slightly over countersunk, so they clear the planets safely.

Looks great!

Just wondering a little about the reduction ratio. I count 8T pinion, 16T planets and 40T housing. Doesn't that ad up to a 5:1 ratio and not 6:1? ((16/8) x (40/16) = 2 x 2.5 = 5)

After quick research on google:

( 40 + 8 ) / 8 = 6

Nice pictures Jacko.

I really like the gap between gear and motor.
Motor cooling holes aren't plugged .
I hope magic word "China" not written on the bearings?

VMGM? Model motors/ axi use as well from cz, on the case is printed Eko-Program and name f.hendrych, Frantesik Hendrych, and cell for Cz. Seems website is under construction maybe.

http://www.eko-program.cz/kontakt/index_en.html

I have noticed other ratio/size from icare before on front of axi but no experience
So give it hell Jacko, will watch

Remember youll probably need a shaft with a pinion machined into it even for the lower ratios. Mega will sell them matched to motors for around 88euro.

My big question is: many of us know how Dan rates his motors (=very conservative). When the GB rating is 3.0kW, how much can it actually take?
4kW? 5kW? Did I hear 6kW????
