HINGES on a Micro , what works ?
What are you guys doing for hinges on these light airplanes ?
I kinda Don't really like the CA ones ; there too stiff for a 2.3g servo
on the micro birds, but ok for the bigger models with bigger servos.
Tape is Light, but makes the controls a bit sloppy.
Carbon rod with a glass tube outside has No slop, but it's Heavy.
So what do YOU use ?

Go old school with sewn hinges. OR try the overlapping fabric/tape method
this method can work with split skewers too. Just build no beefier than needed,
a figure 8 sewn hinge is thing of beauty. Can't be lighter or more secure or free moving.

On a 30" size, I use 1/4", 3 each aileron, 2 or 3 each elevator and 3 for rudder.
Hardly any stiffness and still very strong.

how to make bulk (quantity) hinges
OK so we all need hinges.
Here is a take on a sailplane method that can work for any rc airplane. Just use lighter fabric for smaller planes.
Fabric: The sailplane method used fine Kevlar but
for small foamys PANTY HOSE fabric is fine comes in colors at the $ store
Step 1 Raid your gals stash of panty hose.
Step 2 Get some white gorilla glue or epoxy, squeegee some on a 4" to 6" square of the fabric. Just enough to cover. Remember the gorilla glue or PU will expand so be stingy. Misting PU won't hurt .
Step 3 Place in plastic bag and put a heavy book on it.
Step 5 When the glue is not sticky but NOT hard
cut with scissors ON THE BIAS. That means at 45 degrees to the threads in the fabric. The goal is to NOT have any threads in the hinge parallel to the hinge line.
These can be top or bottom glued to foam as well as in a slot. Keep it light
old silk scarves to recycled umbrella fabric can be used.
ALWAYS glue the hinge in with the same glue you used to make it with!
CA will not stick to epoxy or PU
