Nano-class ds ships

I propose a new class of DS ship: the Nano class. The only rule is the span has to be 16" or less. With all the micro gear available, who will rise to the challenge of miniature DS'ing?

I think there have been many attempts at this size class in the past. Stab planks, micro planks, conventional planforms could all work. Maybe even depron (egad!) could work. Bring on the Nanos!

You know me, I am always keen! But I think it should be 20" or less. Controlling a 16" model would be INSANE, could be fun to try though. Interesting to see how aerodynamics work at that size

I'm in for another challenge.
I think small planes are heaps more fun to fly rather
Than the bigger ones.

The Halfbad has a 24" span and looks like a normal wing. Shrink that thing down to 16", cram a radio in it and see how fast you can go. It won't necessarily be difficult to put a Nano together. I think a normal airfoil could still be practical, since people have been hotwire cutting foam stabs for decades. With all the new parkzone-type radio gear available, even with stability systems, it should be possible to make a sub-12" span DS glider.

Now there a idea of what to do when at a gliding camp(full size) and it is to windy to fly.

Park a glider trailer or two out in the middle of the field to make ridge and DS it will a a nano. Sure to get a few watchers cheering you on.

Will there be separate record categories for "gyro stabilized"?

Cramming an AR6400 brick into something with a sixteen inch span is going to be pretty tough. Hobby King has a narrow rx with two servos built in and they also sell an amazingly small rotary servo that a lot of users say is better and lighter than the linear servos from Spekrum.

I'm thinking of an elevon controlled glider based on the Parkzone Sukhoi wing.

I like the idea, especially since there is no place near me to do more conventional DS.

I tend to agree with Alex Hewson that sixteen inches is small, but we are trying to push the technology so planning specs a bit on the tight side is probably better than making it easy and more practical.

I'm also looking forward to trying this with AS3X gear. I have yet to fly my Gee Bee and though I've got four other AS3X planes on order I haven't even seen one fly in person, but the videos look great. I have flown my Blade mQX, but it's best L/D appears to be zero to one. Tolerates being flown into my AC airstream pretty well though.
