60" E-powered Sbach 342, Nitroplanes??

Hey guys, new to RCG and getting back into R/C after a few years break. I am going to give electrics a try, so I purchased one of these off of that well known auction site.

Item no. 151061321042

I have been searching the web, but have found little info on this plane. But for $170 bucks, I couldn't resist. I am very impressed with the Sbach. Constuction seems to be fairly light and well built. The covering has very few wrinkles. The fiberglass cowl and wheel pants are ligth, and very nicely painted.

The only items that I most likely won't use, are the aluminum landing gear and wing tube. I will replace those with aftermarket carbon products.

Any advise, comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. What would be a good motor/esc combo? Batteries? I am going to use either the Hitec HS-225mg's or the 5245's.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Congratulations. I would go with 5245s or 7245s depending on how fast and agressive you will fly. The 5245s will be fine...I still use them all the time on 60" planes.

Is that dual elevator servos on this plane? If so, the 5245s might be overkill there.

Too bad about the landing gear and wing tube.

You might want to keep the landing gear for the first few flights though, because aluminum seems to help absorb energy during bounced landings.

I would go with 6S 3300 mah to 3800 mah 25c or higher batteries, so that you can use them in the inevitable next plane. For a motor, I'd look at something about 480-500 kv, an 80 to 90 amp esc, and fly with a 16x8, 16x7, 15x8, or 15x7 prop. I have had success with Gens Ace 25c batteries, but I have lately been liking revolectrix 60C batteries. I like the torque 4016T/500 kv MKII motor a lot. It has a cooling fan built in and has tons of power. Others use some other motors but I haven't yet experienced them.

Nothing wrong with aluminum lg. I have actually replaced the cf gear on a couple of my planes and put on aluminum lg. I fly from really rough soccer fields and the aluminum really makes a difference on durability. Now if you have a nice smooth area for takeoffs and especially landings the cf gear are fine. Other wise 7Wolf is pretty spot on with recommendations. Good luck, keep us posted on how it goes.

Thanks guys for the helpful info. I will probably use the aluminum gear after thinking about it. The field I will be flying from is all grass. It looks nice and smooth, and the club takes good care of it, but its grass none the less.

For the batteries, motor and ESC, where is a good place to go for those items? (I'm sure I opened up a can of worms with that question). I unfortunately don't have an unlimited supply of money, so less expensive is better.

Thanks again for the help.

For the torque 4016T/500 kv MKII go to http://www.extremeflightrc.com/
I'd like to hear how the plane does.
Are you flying 3d or Sport?

I am going to use this plane to start learning 3D. At least that is the plan right now. It all depends on how it flies.
I looked at the tourqe motors at extremeflight, and they are out of stock right now. But I will keep looking.

I've never seen a bad review on em....
Have yet to use them myself but hear nothing but great things about them.
This is worth a read, the airframe review won't help you but the electronics part might help some.

Check out the Exceed Rocket 4120 series from HobbyPartz. They are available in several KV's and I have been using one on my EF 60" MXS and it's got a ton of power and runs cool as a cucumber. I can't vouch for the durability of this particular one, I only have about 30 flights on it so far. But I do have a couple in other sizes In other planes and have flown the heck out of them with no problems.

I loved my torque motor in my 58" katana. I had 1300 watts of power and it was a blast. This motor would do up to 1400 on a 6 cell:

The 60 they have looks really good too.

Now I have another question, the manual that comes with this plane is on a small 3-1/4" disc. The center hole is about 19/32". It won't fit in the cd-rom on my computer. Where can I take it, to have the manual printed up?
