Build Log
AREA-52 joins the Spitfire group build!

Hey all it's been a long time since I've posted. I occasionally lurk but have taken a much needed time off from building and flying. A big thanks goes out to Nauga for calling me up and letting me know the PSS Fest was close at hand and we needed a new plane for the event. For all his hard work on the P-40 front a couple years back, Nauga was rewarded with a couple of Spit fuses to work his magic on. I got my grubby little hands on one and we went to work on 'em. It's been a while and I'll be the first to admit that I'm a little rusty with the build skills these days. That being said, we got cores sheeted and bagged up and tail groups cut and sanded. They still need a little massaging but they'll look fine in the end. Also whittled away at the leading edges. I think we used poplar and cut reliefs in them to ease the molding process to the LE. It may be a little weaker than laminating multiple layers but it sure is quicker!

So here are a couple of obligatory pics. I'll be picking up the cores tomorrow and Gorillaing the LE's on in preparation for shaping. I'll also get the tail groups ready for bagging.

As usual, more to come in the next few days.

IRJ

jeezuz I hope those are not cuts in your LE all the way to the wing root. All you need is a few at the tip. Are you making the rare twin tail variant?

That's gonna be one weak ass'd leading edge. I'm aiming for IRJ in the stall turns. That'll be payback for that nasty Il vs F-86 incident

Niiiiiicccccccceeeeeee!!!!!!!!! No cartwheel of death action for me this year. I'm all about keeping 'em light and flyable in most all conditions these days!!

We'll see how the LE turns out. If it needs to be redone it'll be fairly simple to do.

Thanks for the input TFLG

Good to have you guys joining us! Remember it'll be tough being Area52 without Terry and Butch!

Yeah, I spoke to Terry. With his torn bicept recovery he said he may just fly the P-40 and Jart. Butch should still have his P-40 too.

Spit build or not, it'll be good to see and fly with you guys again.
