Dynamax Conversion Kit wHK-5035-700KV

I ordered the Dynamax Conversion Kit wHK-5035-700KV from scorpion motors.

How could I pass it up at only $250 shipped to my door. Heck, most motors will cost at least that.

Comes with motor mount, collet and motor

Package arrived quickly. Its nicely packaged in a tin box with heavy foam.

Pretty large motor, a good bit larger than the hacker that was in the XPS conversion. I took pictures to show the comparison. Of course that also means its heavier.

1 lb 8.4 oz, for the Scorpion and 14.9 oz for the hacker

The mount and assorted bits weigh in at 5.2 oz

I did run into one issue so far when putting the stator fins on the motor housing

The long stator fin hits the motor since the motor is larger in diameter than the motor housing.

This was probably not an issue with the 4000 series motor, but the fin hits the motor with the 5035

I guess the only option is to sand bottom of the end of the fin so it doesn’t hit the motor.

Its only 2 of the stator fins that are like this, the others are short enough that they dont hit anything.

I'll post more after I get things cut down and assembled.

I have one too. They look nice. Bruff has had good experience with this conversion. I have always changed the bearings on scorpion motors to ceramic before putting the fan in use but it really shouldn't be needed. Get ready for the bill from FEDEX. There was a $5 customs fee that had a $7 convenience fee tacked on.

That looks like a good deal.

I helped a local flyer who wanted to convert his glo-dynamax. We ordered the smaller motor then in the deal pkg.

There was one problem when we test ran the fan on a rig. I was looking out in case there was vibration. Sure enough. Turns out the impeller driving washer had a face not square with the bore hole.

Another part he had on hand was substituted & the vibration dropped to normal range. Just something to look out for.

If you get a chance to run your conversion, pls post your motor & fan figures if you can. TIA!

Phil

Ken,

I have heard reports about excessive vibrations caused by bent motor shafts. I'm sure you've ran the motor without the fan on already. Did you notice any issues?

Ken:
Looking forward to the "numbers" on this motor/fan combo. I have run the 4035-630KV motors on my Dynamax fans and they run well. However, I have found that the weak link in this motor is the bearings. The Scorpion/Innov8tive Designs website says to lube the bearings every six flights. So, I determine the bearing sizes and then order some ceramic bearings from Boca bearing. The only other thing I have found is that the motors do not tolerate very much current above the stated max for the motor.

The vibration is most likely from fan that's not dynamically balanced (all components balanced together as one vs separate)

I doubt those scorpion shafts can come bent

If anyone needs their fan balanced to 14s pm me

I'm looking forward to the numbers Ken Lapointe, Par_18, and lrb75--post.

I want to compare them with what ED ( A10pilot ) has told me awhile back on his Tams Dynamax motor conversion kit/ Het 800-68-685 Motor on 12s- vs - this one.
This one is cheaper--BUT--does it any better???

is there a bearing in the alum motor adaptor ? it looks to me that would help support that long shaft... just a penny or two of my thoughts .

That is what I figured as well. Even the worst quality control would catch a bent shaft. I balanced my fan today with the spinner on it and should have some numbers/video by tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.
