For any other builders, don't get too focused on ensuring the perfect alignment of the tail plane. Instead make sure it's in the right way up, then glue it.

As they say...ask me how I know.

I saw this thread regarding the HK Airoso and had a couple questions.
First let me start off I have not flown RC in about 25 years so A LOT has changed. At the time I left the sport I was flying the "old advanced" pattern with a 1.20 YS in a Fresh Air and later, a Fresh Air II. I was able to place top 5 at the nationals in Indiana in 1990, and top 10 at the Pan American Championships the following year.
My hope is that the Airoso will allow me to brush off the rust and be able to use it as a practice plane if I decide to truly get back into pattern flying.
The plane should arrive here tomorrow and I have a Spectrum DX8 on the way.
So to the questions...

1 Has anyone converted to a dual servo elevator? Do I really want to?
2 Does anyone have a "flying" weight? (now that they have time on the airframe)
3 Besides the landing gear, are there any other issues to address straight away?
4 Any other information would be appreciated!

Welcome back! I'm on my 3rd Airoso....either I have an addiction to them or I think they are a bargain. I say the latter.

1. Dual servos...the elevator halves are fairly small, and I have not seen any sloppiness in the joining technique. That, and the fuselage is fairly narrow back by the tail feathers.
2. Mine all were about 5.5 to 6.0 lbs.
3. Not anything more than almost all ARF's exhibit...glue joints, covering wrinkles, etc.
4. Be careful with the canopy, they are brittle. Mount the ESC as far back as you can. Even with the 6S/4000ma. battery up against the wing tube, I have 3 oz. added to the tail.

there is no benefit for dual servo they are ok as they come, mine is on 5s balances perfik, just be weary of trying wing tube for first time..yes it will get stuck and you will curse and swear and you will have to fit your own parts to get the wheels to fit, i am using the undercarriage that came with it and have had no problems with it. I also have the 70 size Monolog and this is every bit as good. if you can get one its a bargain apart from the quality control

Thanks for the replies! I'll leave it with the single servo elevator. Haven't finalized the motor/ESC/battery combo yet but will before monday. I wanted to get a look at the kit, hardware, etc before I place the order for servos, batteries and the like and make one order to finish it up.
I'm thinking of running a seperate fight pack for servo/receiver power. Are people still doing this? Or am I paranoid and just adding weight?

I am running a 1,100 ma. LiFe battery just below the back edge of the canopy. It helps with the c.g.

Well it's here. Unboxed and inspected, nothing damaged or apparently missing!
So far so good. Now it's time to build.......

Thanks for the input.
Was able to "mock up" the plane last night, and plan on playing with it over the weekend. (oddly enough it's going to rain)
Upon inspection I am missing a few things in the hardware pack, but nothing to get excited over.
Planning to use the Hitec servos mentioned in the thread. With a bit of luck should be able to fly it next weekend.
I'll post a couple pics tonight.
