One more "What's this sailplane thread"

Picked this up on Ebay a few months ago, the seller said he didn't know the name of the plane. Anyone have an idea what plane this is?

What is the span? 99" - 100"? My first thought was a Sagitta 900 with a fiberglass fuse, but the wings don't look right for that. Looks nice!

Looks like a Sealy fuse with some one off wings.

I have the same fuse for my Sagitta 900 project. I got mine from Bob Sealy. He may have had a Std class glider where he used that fuse called the Rookie. However I've never seen one.

K,

It sure does look like a Rookie. Anybody else have one out there?

Thanks
Rich

Wow, looks very like a Veron Vortex!! I have a build thread on here somewhere.

The scheme is similar to mine.

Uncanny!

That fuse is definitely from a Rookie mold. However as Marc says above, those are not stock wings. Original wings were E205 white foam cores.

I just purchased a Rookie from the original owner who got his direct from Bob Sealy. It has never been completed, Sealy having done the sheeting of the wings and building of stabs and rudder.

In the building manual Sealy mentions that he's got a Sagitta class fuse he's selling, (44 in long) but the drawing looks identical to the Rookie, so the original builder may have just ordered a fuse and scratch built wings.

New Old Stock Rookie

Here is a picture of my Rookie. All that is left to do is to cover the canopy with Monokote. In the background you can see the remnants of the foam blanks that the cores were cut from.

The sheeted wings sat in those for the last 28 years waiting to be finished and getting a chance to do what they were designed to do.

Best, Fran
