Contra rotating setup

Horten Nurflügler - Eigenbau - 820mm - Contra Rotating System - MSG Stiftland - Siegfried HD (2 min 25 sec)

Interesting setup, yet i believe that a setup with one engine of lets say 1000W would give more available power that with 2 props counter rotating of each 500W?

So when would you go for this setup, besides of having a Nice engineering challenge?

Stability perhaps, being able to skip winglets or vertical stabs more easily? would be Nice

Vincent

Looks as though he's running something like this.I may be wrong but I seem to have read that one of the props should be smaller than the other with a different pitch.
Looks to me like a Horten wing?

Nice link Stu, but i notice the power level remains moderate, below 400W for both together, was hoping at a power monster.....

Seems that this does nt exist, need to make it myself, oh God not that road....

Hallo.
Unfortunately medium/high power contra-rotatating brushless motors are very rare.
The GS motors firm can customize (i.e. change the KV) the motors upon request.
