fox electric glider motor help

I have a fms fox electric glider 91" wing span foam. I am looking for a suitable motor . My plane fully loaded weigh in at 2lb and 28oz. I would like a motor that will have more than enough for this plane. Im not in a area where I can get much thermals and Im looking for vertical climbing. Thanks guys. I will be adding fpv gear to the plane soon as well.

You didn't say how you ended up with no motor.... So I can tell you the stock motor that comes with the plane. It's a Brushless 4018-KV900 .

If you wanted something other than that, I can't help you.

You have to address all elements of the power system, not just a motor, to get the performance you want. That means prop size, battery voltage and capacity, esc rating and finally motor Kv and size.
If you want to work with an existing prop or batteries or esc, you need to specify these. Maximum motor size and weight will also be useful.

Ok, sry. I brought the plane as a kit. no motor no servos.
the plane weighs 2lbs and 28oz. with a 3s 5000mah battery and 60a yep speed controller.
only thing missing is the motor and prop.

I'm not sure I can help with this one - mainly because motors I can think of are unlikely to be mountable without significant mods to the airframe - it has a unusual (for a glider) rear mounting setup http://www.motionrc.com/fms-fox-glid...p/#spare-parts. Also from a bit of reading it seems a challenge to balance with 3S 2200, let alone 3s 5000

There are several threads around on this and what appears to be the same thing sold by Hobby King http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...fox+epo+glider

It seems closer to 3lb is realistic weight. Around 500W in to at least a 130g motor with a decent size prop will provide the thrust for vertical or near vertical climb.
on 3S, use Kv around 800 for 14x9.5, 900 for 13x7" prop, around 1100 for 12x6".
Note that just using a bigger prop on the stock motor will not be successful - it's not designed to handle 400-500W.

Good luck with your goal - I think it might be a big challenge with this model
