Discussion
Wheeler

This discussion is for the wheeler owners out there. Just to introduce myself, many of you know me. I am the newest wheeler owner having bought the "wong" wheeler from Gary Boell. I am currently building a new stand for it and ordering parts to update the radio equipment in the boat and make some minor tweaks to the deck layout. Will post some pictures soon. Such a cool boat, can't wait to sail it at the next SFMYC race. Ryan

Thanks for starting this thread. I have had my eyes on this yacht for some time now and look forward to learning more about these amazing yachts. I have posted some photos to share to get things started. I found these while researching this boat.

If I may - for those not familiar with the Wheeler here is the AMYA Description::

"The Wheeler is a high performance replica of a Maxi Ocean Racer, and, in the words of Gordon Stout, who has won national championships in several AMYA classes, "It is as close to sailing a real boat as you can get with a model sailboat." The Wheeler is a big boat, with an overall length of 79", a waterline length of 63", a beam of 15", and design displacement of 30 pounds. The Wheeler carries 2,000 sq in of sail, which allows it to plane when the winds are up."

Here is link to an informative brochure for those who might like to investigate these beauties. Adrian Olson Products is a producer of these and other fine racing yachts. Please be advised, they are not for those on food stamps.

I have several boats on my "bucket list" and this is one of them! Looks like great fun!

These are great boats. Had the opportunity to sail one a couple of years ago and truly enjoyed it. This boat is very quick, very responsive and exciting to sail especially in a breeze. We don't have too many on the East Coast but would love to see more of them.

John,
Good luck, and have fun. I have followed your thread with considerable interest.
I live out here on the west coast where we have a Wheeler fleet. Ryan

Wheeler stand

Well, I am making some progress on the boat and stand. Have the stand assembled enough to put the boat on it. Going to tie the two uprights together and penetrating epoxy all the wood in the next couple of days. The boat is next, paint the rudder and keel, install new servos and plan for the RMG winch install.
Lots of work ahead. Ryan

Manny, not a slow boat, really fast. Gonna leave the graphics on the boat as my grandfather really loved UCLA. Hopefully in the next two weeks, I will have all the parts to put together the ODOM that I bought from you. Gotta fix the deck problem first. What happened with the glueing of the deck? Ryan

My family is split between USC and UCLA !!
I bought that boat a few years back, I never was able to fit into the boat yard to work on her. I never had the chance to fix her up and sail.
Were you able to find a mast and vang ?

Manny

Well I am painting the keel and repairing the rudder currently. The stand is done structurally now, time to soak it in penetrating epoxy. Got the wheels for it. Gotta make a new radio board for the boat to mount my servos on as the old one is to flimsy. Onward, gonna make a new tiller linkage out of carbon tube with sailsetc fittings. Lots of work to go. Ryan
