Macromedia popups

A couple of the ads are starting to popup requests for me to download
macromedia flash player. Can't we just stick with a picture for the ad?
With all the various virus attacks out there, I don't want to download
anything I don't have to. Just keep the ads as simple pictures, and if I go
to their website, then I can decide if I want to see flash animations and such.

By the way, the ads are:

Kiona Publishing - Cyberflyer magazine
Windrider

MX,

I was going to post a question about the same thing. I even ran Spybot and AdAware to check if I had malware.

It's kind of annoying, but I'll load it if someone can confirm it's ok...and it won't slow down my dial up connection too much.

Any Moderators care to comment?

I never see ads, so I can't comment - one of the admins should chime in, however.

Andy,

How come you never see ads?. Is that one of the bonuses you get as a "mod/super mod".

I was talking about the little banner ads on the top right of each page...

Ad blocking software.. removes ads and popups. I wouldn't mind seeing the ads here, but it doesn't discriminate.

I used to get prompted about Flash player every time I went on the 'Zone. I think I gave in in the end, to be honest I can't remember.

Some of our advertisers choose to use flash animation in their advertisements. the macromedia file is definitely safe and is already installed on 99% of all users machines, so no problems to worry about in downloading and using it.

We do discourage the advertisers from utilizing .swf (flash) ads because some users cannot view them, and because of the very issue you've mentioned; however, some really prefer the flash animations.

Sincerely,
Mrs. AnnMarie Cross

I'm just tired of everyone trying to invade my computer. I have a small home
network and it's almost a full time job just trying to keep 3 computers up and
free of viruses, adware, spyware, etc. Especially the computer that the kids
use for their games and educational software.

The flash ads take too long to load, I cancel and reload to get rid of them. RC groups should advise the sponsor that the ads are too intrusive.

While these ad animations may be safe, I will not turn on .swf due to problems browsing other sites.

I use AdShield and block them. I also block anything with animation.
