What 808 cam have I bought?

I'm in Shanghai at the moment and just bought an 808 camera for 70 RMB (about $11 USD).
How do I find out what version it is?

The charge LED is yellow.

The box states:
Video format AVI
Image format 720x480
Camera format 1280 x 960
There is a sticker on the side "201 W J" (Plus some other mandarin characters)
I don't have a memory card for it yet.

DO use a video produced by your own camera to identify it. That is the only reliable way to ID your camera version. Only use a video frame and video date time stamp to ID your camera, and you might also need some audio information.

DO NOT use any of the following to ID your camera: A photo from your camera. Documents that came with your camera. Information on the camera box. The sellers camera description. A sample video from the seller.

Compare a video frame from your camera to frames in the following tables.

I got two different cameras in those boxes.
One is a #14, with a 17fps video.
The other broke before I got much time with to determine the type.

Guys I'm back home now and had a chance to take another look.
The date time stamp is yellow and in the bottom right.
The video files are saved as SUNP0001, photos are PICT0001.
My photoshop tells me the still pictures are 1280 x 1024 jpegs but they are very small (48 kb).
Can be used to stream video to the PC as a webcam.

Still trying to work out which one it is.

Rob_P,
Looked into your camera and I think it's a #9 as the pic from this page shows the battery side just like yours. The pic on the top left of this page. http://www.chucklohr.com/808/C9/index.html
The time stamp looks like the one that comes on a #9, plus the file names are this SUNPXXXX.avi, PICTXXXX.jpg.

This comparison page says it doesn't do webcam but yours will? http://www.chucklohr.com/808/index.s...eoToCameraType
That's no big deal as these cams change every month it seams, so maybe you got a variant? Someone found a way to get that sucker to be a web cam.
The bad news is the #9 has a 22% missing or duplication of frames per second which is bad. Now I did read that the #3 is making a come back, but I'll believe it when I see the video from one. I have a #3 808 and it shoots pretty good video and the audio is great for mono sound. Doesn't like to go out on hot summer days though, as it shuts down sometimes.
"My Disclaimer: I'm no genius and I'm going from the info I have on hand"
This is just me guessing and doing the leg work for you with my PC.
So put that 808 cam back together and if it still works use it.
Al.

Here's 5 min worth of Photoshop 7 for you guys. One of these pictures is Rob_P and the other one I got from Chucklohr's 808 cam #9 ID your cam site.
So which one is Rob_P's cam? A big thumbs up to the first person to get it right.

Well, it actually took a little longer as I had to remember how to resize; rotate; enlarge the canvas of one pic then use a rectangle marque selection tool; copy and paste, Move the pasted pic to added canvas. Resize the whole picture, then save with a jpeg compressor and upload it to RCG and type this post. WOW.......maybe 10 min? Looks pretty close to me.

Late yesterday afternoon, I hastily attached the camera on top of the wing of my Slow Stick, shooting backwards towards the tail. On this plane the additional weight was un-noticable and I was able to get some video at a couple of locations.
I was flying at around 5:30pm - 6:30pm and the sun was low and caused quite a few issues, however on the occasions when the cam was well out of the sun, the video was better than my old hacked CVS cam. I did note that my vertical stabiliser was "shimmering" but i put that down to the poor way I had the cam mounted and I suspect it may have been vibrating.

The cameras react to vibration levels oddly.
Some will "jello" the image with waves going down the video.
These can't be seen in individual frames.
With a change in vibration, they can go away.
The mounting has a lot to do with it, even similar mountings can show or not show the jello.

Paul,

Here is a good example of the jello as seen on the vertical stabiliser. It comes and goes throught the test. I put it down to the mount (just a few rubber bands).

My Aiptek 1.3m Pencam had jello all through the frames at times in the stills.
I haven't seen anything like that with the keyfob types, just a wave that moves along the frames when viewing the video.
I attributed the jello in the Aiptek to motion between the lens and the imager, the position of the image moving around as the lens wiggled.
The shutter speed on the Aiptek was slow enough to get interesting images also.
The keyfobs give really wild effects to moving objects in a frame.

Looking at the case it appeared that the lens was not centered on the hole in the case. I took this as an opportunity to remove the circuit board to gain access to file out the hole a little.
The main chip appears to be a Hyundai and the date on the board is 13/12/11.
