The new Zipper

Were going to bring the good old 48" Zipper in to the 21st century with a molded wing and at the same time we will be doing the mini Zipper.
Thanks must go to Jordan (hamburglar) for putting in the time drawing the wings so we can machine the plugs on the mill.

Would it still be a Zipper?

A "classic" trait of the Zipper is the squared off wing tips.
In my opinion that is a major part of what makes the plane a Zipper.

Just saying.... Would it truly be a "modern" Zipper without squared off wingtips?
Maybe another name?

When the Weasel was remade recently (molded verses wirecut)... Any one seeing a new Weasel flying would immediately think... "That's a Weasel".... Because it looks very much like the classic Weasel....

Changing the wing planform this drastically would have anyone watching it fly say... "Hey, what's that? "

Don't get me wrong.... I'm all for an upgrade... I love Zippers, I just feel a new version should be evolutionary not revolutionary..... Or just call it a completely different plane....

My thought, too, that a new name might be appropriate.

... Naming Contest?

"Zipper" sounds like a good name to me...
(and seeing Zipper is building it, he can call it whatever he wants).
Put me on the list, Glenn.

Fantastic

Glenn:

Sounds great. Have you ever looked into a US distributor so that maybe you could bulk ship some planes and cut down on the individual shipping costs? I've had (and destroyed) many Zippers so I'm looking forward to seeing you get these up and running.

Thanks guys.

No new name, but maybe an option. The current Zipper is about 25 years old and will still be available but we think its also overdue for an upgrade.
At this stage we haven't started on a new fuse, but when we do I don't think there will be many changes, I know one will be moving the tail back just a bit so it tracks better in the zone.
This is only the start and there is a lot work to do, and thanks to Tim for sharing his techniques and failures, I hope we can have a product that equals' the Gizmo.

Great news Glenn....miss mine so much. Squared off tips for me too - or give the new one a different name (Ripper?).

you could call the small one the button.

but seriously this looks to be a bad to the bone DS machine. i might have to have one of these. wish we could see one in the 60" span.
