If you are not willing or able to scratchbuild, try eBay. And keep in mind that the old paddlewheels were built from basic barge hulls however they wanted to. There is no such thing as "the right way" as no two were built the same - even "sister" boats. I have been having a blast out of my scratchbuild sternwheeler and have found there are a lot of different ways to do the job.

Currently I am stalled waiting for an online order of O scale railings.... It's ok, I have 3 other active boat builds going on.

You might want to try the Vintage and old timer thread here in Boats. There are many plans of older style ships and boats in there.

The UK based "paddleducks" website would be a good place to start, 100% paddleboats. www.paddleducks.co.uk

Thanks for your replies folks.

A little of my story:-
I bought a plan for MFV Eileen many years ago (well over 30) and started twice but never ever got anywhere for unknown reasons. I joined a forum about a year ago with the thoughts re-kindled, I asked the question would this scratch build be beyond a beginner, the answer was, "depends on your abilities" the next suggestion was "buy a fairly easy kit as a first build and get you to the water quicker to hold your interest", this I did.

Whilst waiting for glue to cure I was twiddling my thumbs thinking what can I do now, Ah! I thought, I'll have a go at Eileen and started building her, next thing I ran out of things to do on both boats and started another, a "Great Lakes Freighter". So now I am looking for my next project, because the first is near completion.

Scratch build is for me and the building is more to me than the floatation and RC bit but I'll do that to socialise and get more thoughts and ideas from others.

The attachment is a few weeks back, all I have to do before planking is sort out the rudder.

Troutrunner, I don't actually have a copy of that.
Maybe I can search around to see if it was a scanned item for the web.
