Central Alberta FPV

Hi,

Let's see where this thread goes. The primary purpose of this thread is to discuss all things flying as well as bring together members from all over Alberta.

Background for this thread

I just got into FPV over the winter months and built a 280 size MR for some FPV fun. I am upgrading a couple fixed wings as well for FPV purposes. I currently fly the Boscam channels, but plan to implement 32 channels to avoid headaches. I have been flying for about 2 years now, mostly foamies.

There are plenty of flying clubs in Alberta, but I haven't found one dedicated to FPV and the fun that it brings flying close quarters through trees, or chasing each others with wings.

I am looking for other individuals with a common interest in FPV whether it be fixed wings or multirotor. I am not a stickler for rules, but I do follow common sense (MAAC) and safety rules. A very big rule with FPV is the channel selection and power up of VTXs. I would be fuming if I lost a craft because someone did not check the channel board and their equipment prior to power up. I usally like to leave one channel gap between channels being used to avoid some bleed-in.

There are plenty of flying clubs in Alberta, but I haven't found one dedicated to FPV and the fun that it brings flying close quarters through trees, or chasing each other with wings.

I hope to get a decent group of people with the common interest being FPV. We can all FPV together, find good spots, and even trade goods/advice. I know fellow flyers in the Edmonton region that can add to the group as well.

Hopefully one day we can have MAAC sancitoned FPV club out in the boonies where we have miles of open land to fly .

Thanks bud for helping with getting this thread moving. Spread the word with the others.

Don't let "The Canadian Thread" get wind of this .

We need an Alberta FPV meet. I know there are people, but no one realyl gets together.

I might go to Shad's meet in Winterpeg this summer for a road trip. Would prefer to head towards the mountains.

Great idea for a local thread. I think there's enough interest to make things worthwhile.
I'm just getting started into this stuff and have been having great fun with putting some frames together. My flying skills are not very good at this point.
I'd sure be interested in checking out FVP as I have zero experience here but have some ambitions about trying it.
Here's a couple of my MR's...

Bob it looks like you have 6 MRs on the go and you are just getting into this stuff? Talk about diving head first.

You seem to have the hardware for FPV, so is it a matter of taking these out and having a spotter?

So a few questions...

What is th FC you are using?

Have you flown with snow on the ground? If so what have you used to keep waer out from the electronics?

If you are using a Naze have you tried Cleanflight?

Lastly, have the Zippys been good to you?

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2293247 You might be interested in this PDB for your ZMR250, there is also one for the ZMR250 clone.

Not a good enough flier to do FPV yet, just put some into the frame build.
I have both CC3D and Naze32, haven't tried Cleanflight yet.
Haven't flown in snow, too cold... that's why I do indoor practice.
Zippy' are ok so far but I'm not pushing things very hard.
Also have a flying wing for future FPV...

Who's wing is that? It looks like it is ready for some night flying.

That's the point of this thread. Its to get guys to go out together and do some flying.

It is a slope wing - Bee2. I built it with LEDs, it has KK2 board for stability control, and also has a removable power pod with FPV VTX and camera.
Flew it at the slope last fall, flies and looks great. Here's a closer look at the lights...

UFO, the guys at the ridge thought so too. I got 30 minutes of video flying it but when I got home, I discovered that I had left the lens cover on the GoPro. D'oh...

Hello from camrose

Ive been into RC fixed wing for 12 years, helis for 8, and just set up my first MR this winter. I had a rocky start with FPV last summer losing 2 airframes to it and a repairable crash on a 3rd before i put it down for a bit. But now I have a couple dozen flights on my SK450 dead cat with the goggles on and Im loving every one of them. Id definately be up for a meet, and will be making a few fun flys this year between the camrose modellers and the trout farm flyers clubs. None of which have much for FPV so it would be nice to see others setups!

@Forced

You are ahead of me. I had one flight on my MR, but it needed more PID tuning. Fly the 250 class MRs and you can crash the crap out of them. All you need to do is fix the props.

Another option is a wing like the Popwing, they are fairly crash resistant.

Put a call out for a meet on here. I am trying to track down others.

BTW, did you get a SPAM email or MSG from me? I don't consider it SPAM, but some might. I just want people to talk and participate in such a great hobby.
