I have been finishing a SB deck repair for a customer. Wheeler #38 work will resume next week, the servo layout is almost done, hull reinforcements are done, and blocks are installed for jib fine adjustment. More work will get done next week, should be finished in about two weeks. Ryan

This is great news. It's looking like we can run sea-trials with 38 and #14 before the June regatta. Maybe we will float 5 club Wheelers for R2. That would be a record, no doubt.

Progress is slowly happening on 38. Got the battery set in the radio board, and the new travel lines pulled into the boat, and more standing rigging made. Gonna fit the vang next and figure out how its line is gonna get down below decks. This will determine the servo mounting for the vang which is going to be a Hitec 5805 servo. A few things at a time. Continuing to make progress on 38. Got the vang mounted on the mast and the port radio board mounted, plus some other misc. stuff. Gonna get the standing rigging finished off tomorrow and see if I can find the right nuts for the bolts to mount the vang to the boom. Still thinking about how the vang control line is gonna get below decks. Ryan

vang sheet installation

This drawing may help others visualize how the power-vang sheet is routed. Your use of the block to center the sheet on the gooseneck axis simplified a tricky problem. I've illustrated that idea here.

PROGRESS REPORT GRP OLSEN WHEELER #14 (circa 2014)

The plan is to install the Wheeler deck tomorrow.

Additional CF bulkheads are installed, 2 Servo boards are complete. Wiring is color coded and water proofed. Rx box is water proofed.

Controls include 2 power vangs (jib & main) 2 teasers (jib & main) RMG 380 winch, rudder and backstay downhaul.

All seros are HS8505MG with 343 in oz of torque. 2 vang sheets are routed through 6:1 (triple x2) Pekebe blocks, with the backstay routed through 4:1 Pekebe double blocks.

The boat is controled with a Futaba T10CGH Tx and Futaba 10 channel Rx powered with 2 Hyperian 2s 3400mAh LiFe BATs x2.

The rigging includes a custom ACP Composite 87" .500" tapered CF mast with custom Adrian Olson booms. 2 power-vangs, 2 ceramic bearing goosenecks, the jib Barney Post an and misc parts were milled & lathed by JETmachine, Hayward (author).

Praises go to Steve Scott, Poway, CA for the GRP Olsen Wheeler Kit assembly and his design and manufacturing of CF bulkheads, servo board, adjustable mast-keelson foot and misc parts with his Solidworks drafting that is bootstrapped to his 3D printer and CNC mill.

Design, manufacturing and assemble were done at two sites 450 miles apart and made effortless with frequent telecom conferences.

The tentative date for sea trials is Sunday, May 17th 1pm-3PM at Spreckels Lake GG Park, SF with SFMYC. Plans are in the works for several Wheelers to join in the tests providing "pace-boat" as rigging is adjusted and dialed in.

The long odessy of bringing this GRP Olsen Wheeler #14 (circa 2014) into NorCal club racing will take place Sunday, June 14th, 1PM-3PM during SFMYC's 2015 Wheeler Regatta #2.

Special thanks goes out to Ryan Schofield, Jeff Depew, Dave Misunas and Jess Atkinson for comments, recommendations and general support with this challenging build.
