How big of a plane will my site allow?

Hey all. Another question. I fly in a space that is about three soccer fields wide, and about 3 soccer fields long. I am starting to become semi proficient at 3D and am willing to invest in a nice, bigger-ish plane. Before I look at models, I need to narrow down the size of what I'm looking for. I have an E Flite Mini Funtana X (43 inch 28oz) and that plane, to me, is really nice. It flys good and I can see it and has good pressance in the air, but I know bigger is better. My field gets a little small with my MFX when I practice rolling circles, but I can still do it. Other then that, I don't feel my 43" MFX seems to large for the space.

So what do you guys think? I'm thinking a 3DHS 51" Slick or something.

it really depends on your flying skill. also the slick will do rollings circles and fly in general much better then the funtana so it may feel like you dont need as much space. i personally would go with the DW foamies 48" extra 330, yes it is a foamy but you can fly it in quite small spaces and it 3Ds really well, http://www.shop.depronwest.com/produ...&categoryId=43

Ya, it's up to your thumbs and what you can do with what you have. I fly in an area far smaller than 3x3 soccer fields, and thus far up up to the 57" Extra... guys can fly 110cc planes inside a soccer field (albeit a little cramped)... so it's up to the thumbs and what you want to do.

+1 it's skill-dependent. We fly in a field that's approx 3x3 soccer fields also, and we fly 87" and 89" aircraft there. 50-60" should be no problem, if it's a good-handling aerobatic plane that you can land slowly. A super-fast warbird or racer - probably not.

Good question - I'd agree with the "skills" comment...but I'd throw in there that it might also be up to the perceived "DANGER" the non-flyers sense that live around your site.

My flying buddy lives in an area 40 minutes from me where you could fly a honkin' big plane in a backyard and not cause a sniffle...but here where I'm at...you fly a 36 inch flat foamie and the police'll be called. Or worse...your flight site'll be shut down. He always laughs at me...but it's true!

I've flown my biggest - a 55 inch SHP - in an area larger than what you've described - very comfortably and in-control - but still ended up losing the site. Not saying it was solely due to a 55" airplane...but its something to consider.

appleflyer...are you in my head? I am already looking at components to build a DW 48" extra. Good call.

I think I'm an okay pilot...I don't really know how to tell if its too big or not.

lol, i would go with with ether the recommended setup or a park 480 1020kv/ 1800 mah setup depending on whether you like tons of power or a vary floaty plane.

To me thats a pretty big area.....about the size I fly on. If its clear of people I would fly most any electric plane there.

A GOOD pilot can fly nearly anything inside of a soccer field.

For where you are, I also suggest a DW foamies Extra 330 48". I fly mine in a baseball field, and am completely comfortable doing so

Yeah, I'm excited to get mine up and running. I need a little bit more money first though.

Are there any Real Flight models for the DW Foamies? There really needs to be.
