The discovery channel RC'd a Boeing 737 a while ago, and crashed it to see how well it'd hold up. I think that takes the cake.

i think if they put the rx on the outside of the plane they would get much more range than only 50 yards. Just my two cents.

Where are the pics? I love to see it. I know there are probably lot larger builds, but this is my largest, lightest and the most powerful foamy, "TRIPTYCH". 15-18Kwatts power output at some 440amp combined current draw propells this 17kg AUW like a feather. My maiden ended in bit of a disaster to my wrong CofG and thrust calculations, but after some corrections and minor repairs she runs like on rails. My next project will be slightly larger with two huge 127mm power plants and politically correct tittle "BI-SEKS-UAL". J.

I believe the radio controlled 707 that NASA crashed in the fuel flamability test about 20 years ago is larger than the 727 used in this crash. The fuel test failed in a big fireball and the safer fuel was abandoned.

I did NOT see the program, but suspect the descent was mearly autopilot controlled. With "heading hold" for lateral navigation and "-1000fpm" for vertical navigation it would be fairly easy to guide a plane to a desired spot. It would be MUCH simpler than setting up a 727 for remote control with a budget.

Well, the guy was holding a futaba Tx as the plane went down... perhaps it was partially autopilot but there was a discussion about it on some other subforum here.

They wanted a 2000FPM decent but it crashed at 1500FPM.

The throttle was controlled as well as ailerons or spoilers.
Believe the elevator was also but everything looked pretty much hands off from what little they showed.

Depends on whether we are talking wingspan or weight. The 720 ws is 22 feet larger than the 108 feet of the 727. If talking weight the 727 wins hands down.

Just a heads up for anyone in the UK . The 727 experiment "The plane crash" is being shown on Channel 4 & HD on Thursday this week (11 October) at 9pm.

Thanks, yes, there is my full build log on this project in EDF forums and video of my remaiden two flights. The maiden was quite a bit of horrendous fun, so tail heavy it went into vertical hover strait after rotation! At 17kg it was pulling out of hover on 3/4 stick and it was the only way I could control it to degree to bring it down few feet and drop it with minimal damage. Probably the scariest 30seconds in my life! J.
