fuel tank

While I am not a beginner, this is something I have always fretted over! Some instructions guide the builder to mount the tank with the tank center line at the level of the needle valve or slightly below that point. Then, looking at ugly stick plans and other aircraft with an upright mounted motor, the tank's center line is way below that point!! That would surely affect inverted flight mixture settings. I always use muffler pressure to the fuel tank. What is the truth? Thanks. Wayne.

Its not really that much of a factor as long as you are running pressure into the tank off your muffler. If you are not useing pressure, then i'd try and get it as close to center line as possible.......Gene

I've found tank placement to be more of an issue when the engine is mounted inverted. If the carb is too far below the center line it has a tendency to flood. An upright mount doesn't seem to be as critical.
