Contest
Las Cruces Chile Challenge -- October 12 & 13, 2013

Announcing the second annual Las Cruces Chile Challenge!

We have a wonderful field, as flat and smooth as Eloy, and larger than the SAGE field. This year we've expanded the contest into a two-day event. I'll be the contest director, but Greg (glidermang) will be the guy who really runs the event, with the title Air Boss.

You can camp at the field -- dry camping, no hookups.

Come join us for a fantastic event in Southern New Mexico!

Good for you, Philip!

As Air Boss, I'll be bringing the local donuts for breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, I propose a Chili Cook-off.

Yours, Greg

I wanna play, so sign me up! Anything chili sounds good - save some for breakfast, and we can spice up the donuts.

Got coordinates for the field?

Field Coordinates

For Google Maps users:

And I thought Eloy was remote ... any tips for hotels (nice, quiet, cheap)?

Another amazing Southwest site. For flying it is much like Tucson and Eloy.

Count me in.

Hotels in Las Cruces

Here are some hotels in Las Cruces, and these particular hotels are as close as you will get to the flying site. All are in the complex where I-25 intersects US-70, so are easy to find. You will also need to go East on US-70 to get to the flying site.

1. Staybridge Suites
2. Super-8 Hotel
3. Holday Inn Express
4. Townplace Suites
5. Fairfield Inn

From any of these hotels, here is how I would get to the Jornada flying field: East on US-70, 4 miles to the Meas Grande Exit. Go left under the overpass and travel West one mile to Jornada Road. Go North on Jornada Road at least 7 miles. Unless you pass through the stone pillars, you will not have gone far enough. Through the stone pillars, turn East again at the next opportunity and go 1.4 miles, then turn North, and turn right into the next open gate. (NOTE: we will post signs so that you may be reassured that you are indeed going to the Chile Challenge DLG event, and not just some Apache Indian ambush.)

Reminder: RVs are welcome to stay at the field, but there is no shore power and no water. Also, I can host up to three flyers at my house for the weekend.

Yours, Greg

Update: Aradhana has one bedroom. Two more available at my house.
Update: Charles has one bedroom. One more available.
Update: Bob has the last bedroom (the one with the cot). No more room at the inn!
