Student Shuttle Program: SSP-1 Based on Ardupilot, etc...

Folks,

Finally! We've been working with NASA and the FAA for the last year trying to iron out approval for the flights. We've also been working with EagleTree and Udrones to sponsor components for students in the program.

We've been given "clearance" to one US controlled airspace area for this flight but we are seeking another much better area. We hope announce that location at the Next-Generation SubOrbital Research Conference in Palo Alto starting Monday Feb 27th. http://nsrc.swri.org/

Here is the link to our Session Abstract:
http://www.boulder.swri.edu/NSRC2012.../Russell-E.pdf

Horizon, a highly modified X-5 "Big Wing" will lead the way in the Student Shuttle Program. The X-5 isn't so "big" but is doing very big things for students and research!

Named after the New Horizons Pluto Mission, Horizon will feature a heavily modified X-5 Big Wing which has been fortified via skinning, CF, metal controls, etc. We will post up our build long here starting at the show so we can share the excitement and drive some student traffic to this site and a few others like DIYDrones and FPVLab.

This is it! Enjoy the ride and Roger Roll!

Good thing "some" guys where not around in the 60's, or there wouldn't have been any landing on moon. ;-)

That and FPVLab as well. Thanks for supporting the quest to jazz students on the possibilities of cool stuff with off the shelf components.
