Realflight will NOT Install

A Friend has Realflight 4.5 & Phoenix Simulators, he got a new PC (Windows 7) and Realflight will not install, it worked great on his previous PC (Vista), his security system keeps stopping the installation saying that it contains a trojan virus, before anyone asks it is genuine, it was purchased in a model shop and has the proper codes on the back and was previously installed, he asked me if i would try on my own PC in case there was something wrong with his, it was the same result, my security system stopped it and said it contained a trojan. i have a very old laptop that should have been thrown out ages ago, it has no security so i tried it on it and it installed (But not powerful enough to operate it properly). Has anyone else experienced this, on my own PC i have programs that when installing the anti virus has to be switched off and i wondered if the same had to be done for Realflight. My Friend did say that he lent it to another friend a while ago and that might have done it, but i have never known a virus enter a secure program on a disc.
Has anyone else had this problem or has a solution as its baffles me.
Please Help

Turn off Data Execution Prevention, or disable your security software while installing. That happens sometimes.

Security off

Thanks, have thought of that but i am very weary about switching it off as the security is saying its a trojan, or is that what security systems can call files within programs, when the security displays the files inside the program as follows:-
-Copy Launch 4
Key-icon
Launcher
Launcher Helper G4
Nlvscan2.dll
Rfx-icon

The security system is high lighting the "Launcher Helper" as the trojan

I can tell you that you have a problem some people encounter. If you have a legit copy of RF, there is no Trojan. It's due to the way RF is written. If you have an illegitimate copy, you're on your own. Call tech support if you're concerned. That's why they're there.

If it worked before it should be fine now too.
It's a launcher and often they are seen as Trojans because there are calling different files to run.

When you really don't trust it, upload the file here https://www.virustotal.com/

Cheers!

RF runs on a virtual drive that it creates. I think that's what antivirus software like yours doesn't like.

Solution found

Thanks to all for the help, i found out the problem thru "RealFlight support Discussions", i have Mcafee security and apparently there has been a long running problem between it and RealFlight G4, it is seeing one of the files as a virus, even when you switch it off and install RF it still treats it as a virus when turned back on and won't let it operate, the file in RF is called "Artemis" and there are virus with the same name with numbers and symbols after it and Mcafee see's them as the same, a large number of users have contacted Mcafee to tell them the problem and they won't do anything about it, the solutions mentioned by the user's was to change security and it will install at the first attempt.

Cheers

I figured you were running McAfee, but you never did say.

The other side of the coin is while it's legitimate it is entirely possible it's infected. It's been known to happen, look at the Sony digital picture frames from a few years ago. Tons of those were infected from the factory.

I'd agree with jeffpn though that it's a false positive, and would disable the security service and just reenable it after install. McAfee is not the best security suite around and tends to be more paranoid than most.

I've seen his issue a few times before. If you use mcafee, it will generate a false positive on RF.

Just before I hit submit I saw the word McAfee. I avoid that software like the plague. It finds more false positives than viruses.

Realflight Drone flight simulator not installing - how to fix!

Hi

Heres one fix!

Please be aware there is a known issue where Windows 7 is automatically (and
silently) enabling Compatibility Mode for an earlier version of Windows
(typically Windows XP) for the installer on some products. When this happens,
the installer window for RealFlight will not appear.

Here is a procedure you can use to locate and disable the Compatibility mode
setting for the RealFlight installer under Windows 7:

1. Close all open windows and messages.

2. Insert the RealFlight Drone disk.

3. From the Windows Start menu, select Computer.

4. In the Computer window, right click on the drive where your RealFlight Drone
disk currently resides and select Open from the menu box that appears.

5. From the RealFlight Drone disk contents, right click on the Setup
application and select Properties.

6. From the Properties window, select the Compatibility tab.

7. If the Compatibility mode option has a check mark next to it, then Windows
is currently using that feature to run the installer for RealFlight (this is
incorrect). Remove the check mark next to the Compatibility mode option.

Please Note: Some users have reported the Compatibility mode option is grayed
out where they cannot remove the check mark. If that is the case for you, click
the button at the bottom of the Compatibility tab that says "Change settings
for all users". A second window should appear where you can remove the check
mark from Compatibility mode.

8. Once you have successfully removed the check mark from the Compatibility
mode option, click the Apply button first (at the bottom), then click the OK
button.

9. With the Compatibility mode option disabled, return to the disk contents for
RealFlight Drone and double left click on the Setup application. The installer
for RealFlight Drone should open where you can begin the installation process.

Realflight Drone simulator - not installing

The other fix is to do with Anti Virus Protection.

If you have Norton its likely it will not like Drone Sim .

It will activate 'sonar protection' which will prevent the installation.

To fix that go to norton and temporarily turn off 'Sonar Protection'

Then run install.

All will be well!

Wow old thread huh? I just ran into a problem trying to install real flight 7 onto windows 10.

It would get errors during the install and exit.

I got it working by running the troubleshooting compatibility mode. It automatically selective run under Windows Vista (service pack2) as the best setting. I installed in compatibility mode and it runs great now.
