Turnigy D or SK3 series?
I'm having a heck of a time deciding between these 2 motors:
Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 3542-800kv
Turnigy D3548/6 790KV
This is for the new 48" Skywing/Wattaplane full fuse Edge 540T (the scale looking one).
Does anybody have experience with these? How would they compare to an Omega 130g, or the Hengli motor?

I used a 35-42 in an exp 48" on 4s with a 12x6 prop for months. I would go with that one. Y bearings went out and I sent it to ken at sub sonic motors to fix.

of the 3548/790kv motors for over three years. They are actually available here...
I have one in an Edge 540 (50") ARF full fuse running 4 cell that pulls 36A (initial charge voltage) with 14x7 prop. I have only flown it a few times with this combination as I fly mostly gliders now. It is limited in pitch speed (~47mph) which is fine by me as it is a somewhat fragile 50" plane. This combination gives it roughly 90oz of static thrust for 51oz plane (at least that is what is in my notes - the thrust is from Motocalc).
I also have used 4 of these at 3 and 4 Cell pulling between 30A and 50A but in gliders which are limited to 30 Seconds of run time or less. I also have switched to some of the 1100KV ones which I find to be just a little better for my gliders such that I get a little better pitch speed for the props I use at the 3 cell level.
My experience is that at least for these specific motors, they work "fine" and will run at 35A to 40A with 4Cell. I have run these with peaks to 50A but motor does get hot and I don't recommend that for any appreciable duration.
I caution you to look inside to make sure no wires are loose from the windings that could get caught and force a short. I did have one that I caught when I first bought these but all recent ones have been perfectly fine (I probably have 10 now of these motors - 800 and 1100 KV combined). The others have been just fine and I now glue down the wires when I take them apart (such as to reverse orientation for mounting).
The bearings must be handled appropriately - don't let the housing slam into them for example when taking them apart as it likely will damage them. With my flying, I suspect I will never wear them out but hey at under $20 - whom cares.
One last thing - bear in mind that efficiency on these motors drop as you pull more current - so i suggest the 3548 over the 3542 just for that reason if you can handle the weight.
