Need help with setup - 46" Deep Vee
I need some help. I got this Exceed Racing Deep V hull on trade a few years back. It was obviously manufactured for gas, but I want to make it brushless. This is where I need some help.
My intentions are not to race this boat. I would like something fast, but don't need to break any records. 40 - 50 mph max would be awesome. I would also like to maybe even have reverse as I can setup a GoPro camera on it and film remote control sailboat regattas with it.
So here's my dilemma. I want a reliable boat, but don't want to break the bank.
Here is what I need:
A brushless motor
A brushless ESC
A motor mount (5" between the rails)
Collet to cable (cable is 1/4" square at the end)
Cooling jacket for motor
If I could do all of this for $400 or less, I would be ecstatic.
Should I sell the hull and move in another direction?
Specs on hull are as follows:
Rails: 5" in between
Flex cable: 1/4" square at end
Prop: Approximately 76mm - tip to tip
Weight as she sits: Approximately 5 pounds
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
I want to get this thing off my bench soon, I can't stand having it inoperable.

1st of all, reverse with a flex cable is NOT a good idea. The cables are meant to be turned in one direction only. Reverse (if not applied sparingly) can/will cause it to unwind.
I didn't see batteries mentioned. What kind/size (ma & voltage) packs do you have?
A bigger boat needs higher voltages to ovoid overheating things. Even if you don't want it to go fast. (now where have we heard that before?)
Here's a build on a 47" racing mono from a couple years back. It started with a fairly mild setup and progressed into something a little more radical as time went on.
You'll find links in it for many of the items you will need.

Another question. Do you have the hatch for it? Most electric boats will wind up using the hull for the radio box. (hard to fit a water cooled ESC into a conventional radio box as all it's designed to hold is a couple servos and an receiver)

It has a hatch, not in pictures though. I was thinking 3S - 5000mah in series, but this is getting pretty complicated.
Maybe I should opt for a used Spartan and sell this hull.

Although I don't care for the ABS hull of the Spartan, one of the guys in our club has one and it runs pretty good. He has managed to pop the deck loose from the hull but after repairing it he's still running it.
You can find some video of his around the next to last page in our club's video thread here. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...634006&page=24
