Question
Control as3x from spektrum transmitter

Am I going nuts or did I see a menu item for controlling as3x gains after I did a firmware upgrade on my DX9? I can't find any documentation anywhere on this.

Did you look in the Change Log?

Version 1.06
Changes since 2014-April-18
New Features & Improvements
• Added AS3X Gain monitor functions for use with AR636, AR6335, and similar
AS3X receivers. When you enable telemetry option AS3X, you are able to see
gain status in real time, and adjust it with a trimmer. Note that this function
performs the following re-configurations in your radio:
o The F-Mode switch has its outputs set to the proper values for AS3X
operation. If you are using it for other purposes, you will need to
reconfigure those features to allow AS3X to use them.
o Mix 16 (DX10t and higher) is used to control AS3X gain.
o The selected channel is reconfigured for proper control. If you change the
channel, you will need to manually re-assign the old channel to its desired
purpose.
o Enables a screen “AS3X Gains” on the Function List to configure
parameters.
o Enables the AS3X telemetry gain monitor on the telemetry screens.
o If you are using a DX6, you can tweak the gains using the roller while on
the AS3X Gains configuration screen. If you are using a higher radio, you
can adjust at any time using the desired trimmer.

Thanks for the post. It was very informing. I am guessing that the "change log" is found on the spektrum website. There are several people in my flying club staying away from AS3X because it seems difficult to find information on the set up. I know there is a lot on utube, but there is little information packed in the the BNF foamie model box. Thanks again!

It's one of the two links under the big orange DOWNLOAD button on the update page. Download both PDFs.

Thanks Andy,
One of the reasons I am trying to learn as much as I can about AS3X is I think I see real advantages to it since it always seems windy at our club site, but a lot of people are staying away from the receiver because they aren't aware of the important transmitter set up specs. I think the utube videos are great, but not everyone watches them. When I bought my Rare Bear, I knew nothing about what should be adjusted only in the receiver. I promised to help some of the more courious tech savy guys with this. Thanks for the post!
