A friend had a funny thing happen... His kit-built outrunner motor reversed direction since the last flying session. He said he had recently smacked it into the ground.. Anyone have any idea what's going on with his motor?... I may ask him to bring his plane over to my shop so we can trouble shoot by switch out components...

Switched (any) two of the tree leads between motor and controller?
Changed direction in controller setup?

Actually that happened to me recently, using a 400XT on a cheapo Robotbirds Chinese 18A speed controller. It actually happened between one flight and the next, all I had done was change battery.

There's no documented reverse mode in the speed controller, but I assume it must have been there somewhere in the firmware, and triggered itself through a software error of some sort. Tried every way I could think of to reset it but ended up just changing over two of the ESC to motor leads. That done, flying continued as normal and I haven't had to change it again.

Thanks guys... I'll likely switch the wires around and that should take care of it.

If all the magnets reversed it would still run the same way. If some of them reversed it would run poorly if at all. I don't think shock can reverse magnetic polarity though. Most likely the ESC.
