good going. Looks like an Art-Tech 2M. Mine, from HK, is ready to maiden.

Mine got it's maiden flight today. Three good 40-50 flights actually. At first I was very disappointed in it's sink rate. I added a few clicks of up elev and all was better. Still stalls rather squirrelly. Had a hard time doing loops as it would stall coming through and rotate out. After I landed I think I see why. The wing tips not only didn't have any wash out(up) they were down. Using a heat gun they now have a little wash out. Hope this helps. I was also displeased with it's roll rate so I moved the aileron control rod down one hole to the most movement. Did the same with the elev and rudder. It did fly inverted pretty good without too much need for down elev. So all in all a good first day. It sure will fly fast and whistles nicely as it screams along.

Congrats, rtbates!

Scale sailplanes appeal to me for two different reasons.

The first is that they are more challenging to fly in thermals. I can chat and goof off while flying a "model of a model" but the scale birds are totally absorbing and the timer goes off before I realize I've actually managed to climb another 1,000 feet (Because I'm just that good, LOL.) Actually, I think most scale birds "show lift" (Sometimes by flipping upside down) than more forgiving sailplanes but one needs more skill to exploit said lift.

The second is that, if there's not much lift to speak of, they just look really awesome doing those low passes and lazy aerobatics. I get bored flying my 3D planes but my knees knock together when I get a perfect slow roll with the ASW 28 and I finally have it dialed in so I can do snap rolls and lovely, slow, spins to bring it down from a "boomer". I also just flew it for the first time with the more powerful motor and it will do torque rolls if I want to!

BTW. You mentioned roll response. I have found that differential throw, more up travel than down, is absolutely critical for a scale sailplane with a high aspect ratio. I just set it up mechanically instead of mixing it in the transmitter.

Cheers!

thanks.
I have 40% aileron differential set on the radio. I now have added wash out to hopefully cure the nasty stall and roll tendency and all surface movements set to max.

Watch for the control rod hitting the wing edge. With spoilerons set to 80% and the control in the lower (most movement) hole mine did. I simply cut out a notch.

Nose should drop as mine did. A little elev takes care of it. I had no need for a radio mix as the amount of elev required is not that much

good luck.

managed to get a few flights in today, didnt try the spoilers, short vid of the approach and landing, starting to get the hang of it a bit more, not the easiest learner glider but starting to get the feel of it

Spot on. Good work. I'm very much still trying to learn the Ask21's proper glide angle for landing approaches. So far I tend to overshoot the landing. Especially difficult so far when landing in gusting wind conditions.

you can see in the video how far down wind i was when i turned for the approach, this was a very slight breeze as well, it takes a while to get used to it

I know what you mean. I watched several times to get a feel. Can't tell really from the vid, but what was your approximate altitude when you made that final turn? I've found that even with spoilerons set loosing altitude results in a big speed gain. No flying tomorrow. We a 30 mile no fly zone around Austin because the Pres. will be here. Lasts all day. Should rain anyway so no biggie. I am anxious to see what effect the wash out adds to reduce the tip stalling tenancies.

probably about 30-40ft but i will let it loose some height in the turn which was more of a full 180 degree turn than a 90 degree turn just to keep some speed up on it through the final turn and then level out a bit and then some down elev to bring it in, i probably could be a bit lower as well, dont worry im still figuring out my self, probably get someone with more experience than me to test the spoilerons at height to see the effect

thanks for the info. I see you have a fence to clear, yikes! So far I'm really uneasy about making low high rate turns.

He's a pathological Marxist!

And now back to the ASK-21....
Has nothing to with WHO is the Pres. With all the nuts getting all the press, it's national policy to try to eliminate all possibilities.

Possibly you've been watching too much Fox News!

Now, lets get back to the ASK 21, please.
