Well I was able to get back to building. I managed to finish the nacelles, mounts and wired up the electrics and did a bench test. I ran into a snag that required some attention

Despite my high tech incidence calculations my EDFs ended up 3 degrees down in the front.(negative) That required some surgery

Thats an interesting point about the watts. When I got these numbers I had both fans running together off of 1 batt. I had a splitter from the battery to the ESC's, a Y connector for the Rx with the red wire removed on one side for the BEC. Those numbers would reflect only one fan??? I wonder if my meter will not recognize the twin set up? except the meter was plugged in between the batt. and the Y off to the two ESC's. I will have to run one set up single and see. You would think that the meter would not be able to tell the difference. It should be reading what ever the draw is going through it.

Ok I ran one of the fans alone. On a 3s 2200 20c the meter was reading 78 watts at 6.6 amps. So I guess those where total numbers. 6.6 amps is nothing. On the specs for the motor/fan it states up to 18 amps? It does not give watts. I have been assembling the A10 and right now after hinging, finishing the motor mounts and nacelles Im at a total airframe only weight of 6.4 ounces. From everything I have seen these little fans will put out about 1 lb of thrust each. I am not using any efflux tube, dont need speed. I guess we will see what happens

hmmmmmm....6amps doesnt sound right..the 20amp ESC's I run will get real warm fairly quickly on a bench test at full throttle so I can only think they must be pulling close to the ESC limit, dont have an amp meter so I cant say for sure.
I do remember a few folks having trouble with the 30amp RedBrick ESCs, the 2 20amp RB's I have work awesome, so I dont know.. 6amps is an awefull low pull for those fans though, if your thrust and eflux are good then there probably isnt anything wrong but maybe an erroneous amp/watt reading...?

I was thinking like Walt, the 148watts and 13amps were from one unit, that would be more like it..

It did not seem right to me either. I am going to run one of the units on a different 20 amp ESC that I have and see what it shows. I am going to static thrust test them also and see what kind of numbers I get. Something seems fishy!

Ok guys, I did some bench testing and I have a question. I ran one fan on a 20amp esc that I have and I got good numbers 15amps with 146 watts. On both the Red brick 30 amp esc's I am getting half of that 6amps with around 75 watts! One thing I noticed is on the Red bricks I have to change the polarity going to the motor to get the fan to spin the proper direction, not so on the other ESC. I have not tried switching the polarity on the battery side of the Red Brick ESC yet. I do not know if this would account for the minimal outputs Im getting or not??? Any input out there would be great. Greg

Sounds a bit like the Esc throttle points have not been set properly on the 30 amp escs.

oh lord dont switch the battery side....ESC's dont like that...it will let the "magic smoke" out that makes em work.

Didnt get the chance to switch the batt side, one of them let out the "magic smoke" all on its own when I hooked them both up again and was going to try to reprogram them to facory default.

but it doesnt matter, the other one wont accept the programming??? I

canned them and ordered different esc's

For 6 bucks( or what ever they where) I wasnt going to stress it, ordered the Dynam 30amp's. I know I do not need 30 amps but the difference was only 2 grams in weight, they should be here in a couple days. Greg

On second thought, they just came from the factory!!! shouldnt they have been at "factory default"

On a 3s 2200 20c my meter was showing 146 watts at 13 amps. I had these mounted up on some foam and ran a whole battery, no heat problems. These little fans are incredibly smooth. Views: 24 I used DS foam for the nacelles. It rolls nice and the 2 layers I used came out the right diameter. Views: 27 I thought my angle was correct at zero Views: 25 Mounts made and attached. Two layers of FFF laminated with epoxy and 3 toothpick (spars) inside each for strength Views: 28 Inside reinforcements with balsa to cut down on flex. Views: 27 Second layer of DS foam worked well for shape and strength. Views: 33 Here is when I discovered the negative angle of the EDF's and surgery was required. Views: 49 Getting closer
