Mutiplex Fun Cub

I am looking for a trainer plane for my grandson. He has been flying a Parkzone Micro Cub and Slow Stick. Looking at the Mutiplex Fun Cub. Thought it might be a fun plane for me and the grandkid's.

I have a spare Park 450 motor. You think that might do ok to start off?

I think so. It's a pretty light plane.

I'm going to affix the Eagletree stabilizer to mine also which should make it an even better trainer.

Great. If Atlanta Hobby has one in stock will pick it up Friday.
We need to get together and fly again soon.

I have a Fun Cub and absolutely love it. The big wheels make flying at rogue field fun. I would definitely reinforce the main landing gear- I'll post a pic of my gear that costs about a buck. I'd also recommend the aluminum motor mount from headsuprc.com and there is also a cnc milled plywood fuselage reinforcement kit someone is selling on the last few pages of the thread. If you want to paint it, Krylon h2o latex in a spray can works awesome, Ace hardware sells it. If you start looking at the Fun Cub thread you'll see lots of opinions on motors, for a "trainer" you will want about a 175 watt set up. I have a 3536, 910kv motor that yields about 240 watts with a 12x6 prop and it hover even though it does not have the throws to hold it for a long time. This set up will also to a 2 meter glider with ease. Make sure you install the tow relaese in the wing- As you can use it to pull banners or drop a parachute/bomb. You'll need to flip 1 flap servo so it rotates in the right direction and make a longer pushrods for it, or- carve out a new slot and mount the servo using the stock pushrod.

^^^^^ These are just the things that I did with mine. Your mileage may vary Hopefully it saves you some time as I felt like I spent 15 hours reading the threads that could have been spent flying

Thanks for the info. This will help alot. The spare motor I have is a Park 450 890kv. I think that will do good to start off. My grandson has been flying a Micro Cub and Slow Stick. When he gets better I will go for more power.

Better motor mount can be found at gobrushless.com - ie: microdan. It is much more open than the one from HeadsupRC.

Mine has over 400 watts on tap but that's just me being silly.

I have not towed with yours yet Rich, but as far as power I think it really handles aerobatics well with your current setup... I would love to see this thing with 400+ be sure to reinforce those wings!

I'll definitely get some carbon all the way out to the wingtips. It "smiles" a bit at the bottom of a hard loop.

motor mount form Small parts cnc .com are the best. imo

I am running the motor /esc from Extreme flight's 48 inch plane setup on mine. it works great on 3 cell / on 4 cell is awesome! I love my Funcub. It has been out since I need to repair the wing but it is by far my favorite plane I have had from a durability / fun aspect.
