L-159 ALCA made from EPP produced by www.lm-model.cz

Hello guys...Here are some pictures and one video of my new model L-159 ALCA which was build from from kit produced by www.lm-model.cz Model is very nice, so stable in flight with good speed and nice landings. All parts are made from EPP. My setup is completely from www.hobbycity.com . EDF 64mm (cheapest), motor TURNIGY EDF (silver outrunner) 2815/4000 kv, ESC HKSSH 50A, battery TURNIGY 3S 1800 mAh 20C, 3 x HXT 900 servos for ailerons and elevator. Wingspan 780mm, length 910mm, RTF weight is 590 grams with my setup. Thrust is little bit more than weight. Last thing I have to do is make some nice color scheme...ENJOY

Hello,

It's a great EDF plane !
I like the way you use EPP to do this.
EPO is too fragile and FGlass too expensive for me.

LM-Model produce some very good plane.
I have a Bf 109 from they : http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1135762

I've put a effective rudder, flaps and electric retracts.
It flies like a dream.

I will certainly buy this small EDF.
I hope LM-Model will not fall in the EDF banality like F16 - Migs and Sabre ....
I hope they will not produce models than other produce many years ago ....

The best way is originality.
The first step is done with EPP, the second must be done with fresh models.

Thank you

Remi - Belgium

Do you think this is the best way to put the elevator servo ?
Is there no drag in the duct ?

When the plane arrived, have we put the 3mm carbon line in the EPP or is it made like in the Bf109e kit ?

Thank you

Rémi

HI Rémi...

I can answer to your questions...I started this build thread and I made one of this nice bird...I think that this is the best solution because it is not enough space in the rear of fuselage for its location there. One link rod which has diameter 3mm doesn´t reduce the thrust of EDF. In my kit wasn´t installed carbon line so you going to have to instal it, I recommend diameter 1,5mm, max. 2 mm. That is sufficient for these wings. I hope, I helped you.

This looks so good. Libor should consider making other popular jets t-33, f-18 (blue angels scheme) and f-16. Thanks.

Hello,

Today I finally test the 'L159. It flies really well and is very stable, you can fly at few centimeter from floor with a little gas. The material is very strong, I gave it two coats of clear varnish for parquet and protects the foam from abrasion during landing.
My setup is:

64 mm fan STARMAX balanced myself
Motor innrunner freewing B2040 4500 kv (very low cost)
lipo 3s 1600 25c hyperion (actually it's a bit poor), 3 Hitec HS 55, 50-amp esc black mantis, 600 gr. thrust on teststand, 29 amp at about 300 W, the model weighs 595 grams ready to fly.

I'm happy with the result, with little money it makes a nice jet and excellent flying characteristics. I'd like to try a more powerful edf unit, i think will be better especially in takeoff. Post some pictures tomorrow.

Libor, have you some other jets to realize?

Lm Models Alca jet

Hello Guys,

Here is a photo of my Alca Jet from LM Models.

I have quite a few planes and i must say that this is my new Keeper!

Great kit supplied from Lm Models and very straight forward to build.
LM also supplied me with ducted fan unit HKED64 and Turnigy 3600 KV EDF outrunner motor at a very cheap price. Can also be purchased from Hobby King.
I am really impressed with the EDF unit for such a cheap price. It works perfectly right out of the box, super smooth and no balance issues at all.
Turnigy Motor also works really well with this unit.
For more performance you could use the Turnigy 4000kv or 4500 kv motors.
Plane is not super fast on the 3600kv motor, but is quick enough for my dumb thumbs and flies like she was on rails.

Alca is super smooth and looks great in the air.

I am using a 1300 lipo with a AUW of 530 grams.

She flies around very well at half throttle and on this i am getting 7 minutes flying time. She would also handle a 1600 or 1800 battery.

The model is made from EPP foam and this product seems to give very stable flight characteristics.

She will fly very slowly and i land her in long glass at no more than a quick walking pace. Very impressive for an EDF.

The EPP is also very crash resistant should you get it wrong.

This plane would make a great first EDF with tons of potential for the experienced jet jockey.

Libor from LM models is on to a winner with this model. Well done Libor.

Wow it's been about a year. I just finished mine and haven't maidened yet. Maybe when the temps hit 40 F later this week.

I like how it was shipped. And a great price. A few things:

1) you need to cut or sand some of the edges where the sections glue together - totally fine just watch for it
2) I placed the ESC right above the wing. In the battery compartment the plane was nose-heavy with a 1550ma battery
3) the rudder control rod was like 10mm short but I happened to have music wire
4) The wing mount is a great idea but I had to glue it because I had too much left/right wing rocking
5) I used my own thicker carbon instead of what was supplied
6) I used thicker music wire for the U that ties the elevators together.

I didn't see aileron rods supplied but no problem I had plenty of wire.

It is much longer than I thought it would be!
