Haoye Fan Issue

Looking for suggestions on a strange noise coming from my Haoye fan.

It a 51mm 7 blade model and is set up with a 2900 kv inrunner, a 20 A esc, and a 3s 2200 battery.

On running up the motor, the fan produces a consistent hum until about 50% throttle, when it suddenly becomes dramatically louder and the sound takes on a completely different and harsher character.

I do not think that anything is loose- all connections have lock tite and are properly torqued. Any ideas about what is happening?

Is the fan balanced and the motor supported in the rear of the motor tube?

I have not balanced the fan- I wouldn't know how. It's so small! However, there are a series of small holes drilled in the hub in an offset pattern, suggesting that the manufacturer made an attempt to balance the fan.

As for rear support, the system doesn't seem designed for that. I suppose that I could rig something up, but it would probably be as likely to harm as help.

As it spins up, the blades might be flexing/stretching, and rubbing on the shroud. Are there rub marks?

You wrap the motor with tape to support the motor in the tube. Hoaye fans motor mounts allow some flex. Do a search for how to balance the rotor. It need to be balanced to perform properly.
