i am about to order componants and would like to stay low cost and reliable i dont want to even run a threat of burning up the motor or speed controle or breaking a shaft
should i go straight or flex , rudder pickup or transom mounted or mabee even brass throughull
i have picked out a motor and speed control

i'd go with a flex shaft, less vibration

Is there anyone who is building the boat now? It would be interesting to see some pictures of your builds and solutions!

I am interested in your running gear. I am wondering if it would be ok to have the prop under the boat and about 3 inches from the back? Would there be a problem with putting the rudder in the middle? I had a dumas 10 along time ago and found free plans and downloaded them. I am not planning on racing just want it for fun. I am thinking easier to make a rudder for cheap than have to buy one. Your boat looks great. You are really good at modeling.

I downloaded the plans and got 2 different sizes made from staples, 9 copys black and white 1.95. I ask how much for the 3 foot wide printer and he said .60 a square foot. That is 3' wide and how ever long you want it.

Running a 2040 4800kv brushless with a Turnigy 35A Marine ESC, 2c 2200mAh and 35mm prop.. Getting approx 40kmh..
Have since added trim tabs to it which have made it much more controllable at speed.

does it matter how many turns a motor has? I was wondering what would work in a 20" boat same plans. I have been looking on ebay and it is really confusing. I am thinking just 2s lipos and a regular shaft, not sure of prop and motor. They seem to be different turns , kv, sizes. If I understand right I will need a motor that is 36mm in diameter or a 540 size about 2200 kv up to about 3600. I would like to get something that would go fast be dont need anything that involved racing. I am going cheap. If everything works out I am going to try a bigger one.I'm just starting the hull so if I can get some idea I may get the stuff from china before I'm done with the boat . I have an esc and a rudder coming probly around the end of the month.The esc is 320A Speed Controller ESC For 1/5 1/8 1/10 RC Car Truck Buggy boat off road US

Wat is a speed control gsw600

Hey guys im totally new to this so ive got ?s. What things do i need to run the boat, i mean like wat things do i get in order to make it run.*be detailed plz*

They can be used with a stock 500<600 size brushed motor but equivalent brushless esc can be have for less money as well as brushless motors of less than 200 Watts.

speed controller is for a brushed motor. I am thinking that is ok as I got a linburg pt 109 in the basement with a 6 volt dumas motor in it. I will see what I can do with it when 2 channel hk radio get here. I am getting different answers about motors some say stay around the 2000 to 3600 kv range, then some people got 4000 to 5000 kv motors. I dont need a screamer but would like it to be fun.I read less turns cause it to run different also? Its alot different than it was in 1978.

Brushed motors with less turns have a higher Kv and Amp draw so they are not very good in direct drive application for a boat or plane (having less torque). Boats in that size run just fine with a 20mm size inrunner+ 35A esc and 2 cells Lipo!

what would the kv be or would it matter it seems the 2s is what would limit it. Then just have to find a prop to work with the kv on motor? I also noticed lipos have different ratings would that be a 2s something c and so many mah. I'm guessing from what I have read the c something is discharge rate and mah would be how long it will run? I am really confused with the shaft drives. If I put a strut on back of the boat and run a flex shaft would it be 2 pieces and how are they attached, looks like a square end or something. Then some seem to be 1 piece. I didnt know if a 1 piece can just go under the boat? Everyone seems to have struts and big rudders attached to the back. Then they sell flex shafts in pieces so I'm guessing it wont matter unless it wont fit. Thanks for answering.
