Build Log
El Gringito pattern park flyer

Taking a crack at building this. Its an old pattern plane design. Going to be 67% of original. I won't be doing the canopy. The trailing edge seems to be unconventional using short wide ailerons but I'll try it.

Looks like a neat model. Strange name, though

Its a smaller version of the original Gringo.
I like the older planes as they are easy to build even if they have unusual names.
Picture of original Gringo:

Plugging along................... It's always fun building a tapered wing without instructions. It seems to have come out straight so that's good. I'll be cutting the ailerons later with a fine hacksaw blade. Then adding more material for the hinges. Trying to keep it light. Last time I went this route with a different plane, the plane ended up heavy so this time I'll leave out the most of the basswood and plywood. It has a leading edge dowel in front. Helped me align it easier. 3/16" square balsa spars with shear webs. Seems to look more like a warbird rather then a pattern plane but I wouldn't know the difference.

I was able to make a canopy using the water bottle heat gun wood plug trick. It looks so much better!
