50 size 4 stroke...on a Seagull PC-9?

Hi all.

I have just started building my seagull PC-9 and would like to use a 4 stroke motor in it.

I am thinking of an OS FS-52 surpass, or Magnum 52rfs..maybe a thunder tiger 54.

However all these engines are quoted as producing around 0.9 bhp......quite a bit less than say an os 46ax 2 stroke (1.5bhp)

So i am curious if any of you are flying a Pc-9 with one of the above 4 strokes......what is the performance like?

I flew mine with a magnum .52 four stroke, and a Evolution .46. Both of them require you to dremel out the mount to get them to fit. You get more speed with the 2 stroke definitely. And the four stroke sticks out the bottom of the cowl quite a bit. I think youll have more fun if you go the 2 stroke route.

I had an old Enya .40SS in mine and it pulled the mess out of it. Floated in for a landing very nicely with a lighter engine.

In my opinion, the horsepower ratings are next to useless. How do you know if it was even tested? It could just be an estimate, or a biased test. Go by displacement size. The 4 strokes will definitely give you enough power.

Amen Lucas, I think of fourstrokes in terms Flying Power rather than HP and they have it in spades. An OS .52, Saito .56 or an Enya .53 will fly your plane just fine.
