Haha There actually is a serious answer... up to 13lb of thrust there are only the Lambert Kolibri that performs(!) One will do 6.6lb of thrust with a system weight of just under 1lb. Two will do 13lb of thrust with a system weight of 1.8lb. 4 of them will do 26lb of thrust and weigh in at 3.9lb... but then you can as well choose any turbine doing 26lb of thrust that weighs the same and save 3*turbine costs

I wasn't going to do any work on this thing in the States but got bored and...

Spent the day putting in air ducts to exhaust air to the rear of the motor and ESC. I cut a slot in the side and glassed the slot from the inside to try and get back some of the strength lost in the cutting process. It is ugly right now as I am not done and will get a final coat of black gloss epoxy.

If you build this plane with a BIG inrunner this part of the build is a must...pain in the neck...but a must to run high amps! Getting rid of heat means going faster Learned that from the first Monster!

Hey Rolf...please post up pics of your install of the RDS system...I might go that route as well. Less Drag

Finished the exhaust ducts today...hated to cut that beautiful carbon but it is a must for the big inrunner.

I think the little holes on the side didn t bring fresh air, the only point they do is that they bring a bit but only a bit air outside. lot of work for nothing. Better resolution had been a bigger hole in the fuse behind the wing.


Did I tell you , as my favorite Motorspecialist told me, I fly mine in the future with under 200 Amps

They aren't for bringing air in but getting air out....they reduced the Motor temperature in the first Monster by about 75 degrees F according to the data logging Trust me Rolf...for my application (Inrunner) they are a must.

Here is one of my inrunners...arrived today... Mega 22/60/1E. Thanks Murdo! The Mega is 36mm by 90mm long...a BEAST

I also plan on getting a Neu of as close as possible size and kv to do some head to head tests. Should be fun! I'm sure the lowest resistance will win out

The 1515/1Y that was in my first Monster is an awesome motor...I was really glad when Steve and company fixed it (burried 8" in a field) and I got it back better than NEW no pun intended...GREAT JOB Steve! It remains to be seen how much I could put through that motor as it was still taking it and had room for more (over 270amps, 4kw, direct drive). I still had 40 degrees to go to reach max case temp!

This should be really fun...both of us building one on opposite sides of the pond

I have ordered some parts, and when they arrive I start building the monster. hopefully I get the weight to the FAI Rules.

at the moment I build the "little" baby monster - the LP1. has to be ready next week for a flight festival - what I know the baby monster will be a monster too

and what I know - these birds are from a very good quality - all ppl who seen mine sit there and say the same, Andreas the dude who build them build them with heart.... finest work....congratulations to him and thx. for doing that.

btw. - when yours Artic and mine are ready - we can do an airrace over webcam

no didn t get him ready, first I had to solve some problems how I will do motormounting and connection to esc and than parents from my girlfriend come for one and a half day to visit us --- so nothing with building on the little black bird hope this week I get some time more.

Rolf,

Big hole behind the wing would set the outlet into a high preassure spot,obviously arctic has read and understood Bernoullis law(regarding airflow in fuse he seem to be one of few)

yesterday I met Erwin at Unterwössen , he has the same Strecker inside as I will build in I didn t have to make a lot of aircondition for the equipment after his flight all components have had normal temperature and that with only very tiny holes in the fuse .... so I do not have the problem

Anyway,regarding drag no hole is the best solution, but if there are temperature issues its better to have a close look at aerodynamical theory than just drilling holes where-ever everybody drills holes!

Great Video Rolf!...hope to get 250 from my Monster in the next few weeks. Will be back in Canada tomorrow....and will start on getting the motor mount plate in then the tail surfaces...might try and mount them so they can be removed for transport.

Mreyello - I sure learned alot about moving air in the first Monster build.... had holes and TAPED UP holes all over that thing...and yes I did quite a bit of reading and research. This one will be different!

Got back to Canada on Tuesday...much cooler up here

Spent yesterday working on the motor mount plate and testing it in the plane. Found that the areas where the Fuz is joined is a little rough and uneven so mounting the plate is going to be a chore

Smoothed the area out as much as possible to get the plate to fit flush inside the very small lip. My worry is getting the plate inside at an angle giving a + or - thrust. Am looking for zero on this one!

Might use a technique that I saw where the motor is bolted to the plate and the spinner is used to hold it flush to the front lip
