Making Airplane from Urethane Resin, could it work?

The idea of being able to make any plane you could ever imagine right at home has always fascinated me, but being able to make them instantly is a much better deal I think. I came across this site volpinprops and it got me thinking about making a RC plane out of urethane resin.

The props are hollow, and they have a high level of detail and appear to be lightweight. Has anyone ever tried making an airplane body from this stuff ?

The site

Interesting technique. It might work, with the right internal structure for rigidity, but it would all depend on how heavy the cured resin is.

The resins I've seen don't have the strength to weight ratio to pull it off but would work well for scale details.

Cheers!

Yeah I agree, it would all depend on the weight. If the weight of the cured resin was reasonable, I think this would definitely be a plausible solution to creating a RC airplane more efficiently.

The cost could be horrendous. Tooling for plastic molding usually runs into the thousands.

if you want to 'manufacturer' your own planes, have a look at some of the 3D Printers, there are also a few threads on RCG.
