PL6 - LiFePO4 - Discharge/Charge rates

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to charging, so please forgive if this has been addressed somewhere else (I did try searching).

I have PL6 as well as a 4S - 34aH - 13.2V LiFePO4 battery.
each cell has nominal 3.3V.

I am trying to do a full cycle (discharge/charge), and having issues with the PL6.

I have read on other threads that the best selection for this type of battery is preset #10 - High Power.

When I use this setting, even though I have set the Charge/Discharge rates at 15A, I am only getting 3.65A on discharge/charge.

My pack can definitely handle the amps (max continuous discharge of 170A and max charge current of 50A).

I'm hoping someone here can shed some light as to why I can only charge/discharge at 3.65 A when I have set to 15A for each....

Sounds like you are hitting the internal discharge limit of 50 watts. 50 watts / 3.65 amps is 13.7v. You can use the regenerative discharge into a lead acid battery to increase the discharge capabilities.

Is there any way around that without buying an SLA?
I was trying to avoid buying an SLA. My DC supply provides up to 30A so I was under impression it would be enough.

Cycling a 34Ah battery at 3.65A will take some time

I think missed that the charge rate was also slow. For that issue, check the supply settings, current limit and low supply settings. Low supply setting should be 50%-70% of the supply voltage.

Thanks Gregor. will check that tonight. I know for the first cycle, I want to be conservative and set the supply 15A, even though capable of more. Will give that a go. Thanks!

Hi guys,
Sorry to hijack the thread.
I have a cellpro powerlab 6 and a lifepo4 2100mah transmitter pack. However, my cellpro powerlab 6 only offers to amperes in a123 which are 2300mah and 1100mah. I am confused on which to use to charge my transmitter pack.

Use the A123 , 2300mah preset. It only needs to be close, and doesn't have to match.
