Truckable Towboat Project / Kits

Well guy's, because of my health, and production / parts fabrication delays, it took longer than we planed, but, we got there. I am sure having fun with my boat, and Troy is kicking everyone's butt, with his twin screw!! I was rereading this thread again, and really appreciate all of the post's. Thanks again, Charlie

I saw your Truckable Towboat at Riverside Sunday. Very nice! Have any been built with direct drive motors? Or is it best to go with the gearbox? Thanks. Skip.

Depends on the motor. A 55-65 turn Integy would be perfect in this hull direct.

Another alternative to the motor above is what I've have been using for years direct drive in my Tugs. I use this motor from 7.4V to 14.4V and 1 to 2.25 inch 4 blade props and the best thing is its only $3.99 each! The attached photos all are power by this motor.

Troy and I prefer using gearbox's, it allows us to run the motor rev's higher, and that increases torque. Also, if you are running a 2.5, or 3 to 1 ratio, minor adjustments in throttle, are much smoother. Some people do not like the extra noise, but we feel that for Tug Competition use, it is better to use a gearbox. Almost ALL the tugs we own, have gearbox's in them. I was not able to stay at Riverside till they got going, so here is the layout in both of my tugs used for competition. CB

I stuffed an Astro Flight 035 belt drive into the TTB I built. Works great.

That's an understatement...your truckable towboat will pull your shoulder out of it's socket! :-)
