Too bad the search engine isn't better on here. I remember it was a trainer or a top wing, like a cessna and the guy was from oversea's tyland or somewhere like that and he did a really nice job on it. I checked my bookmarks but I must have not stored it like I usually do.

to answer your question , I built 2 scratch built airplanes from aluminum
this was back in the 70's , they sold sheets of 0.003 aluminum slightly
thinner then soda can .

construction was (first model ) balsa typlical gulliows type , then
the pattern's for the coverings were made from paper - cut the
aluminum , then gluded to airframe - end result very light weight
very strong airframe .

the second model used aluminum bulkheads with balsa stringers
also ended up with a very strong /light weight airframe , not hard
but time comusing .

Very nice planes.

Can you give more details ?
What was the length/wing span/weight ? Also, what kind of motor did you use ?
Do you have any video of their flights ?

Thanks , Both model are close in size , the x-1 is 36" ws 38" long
built several of these - most were E-F rocket powered 4 motors
fired 2 at a time , one model was Freon Powered .Both have
retracts .
the second had a 38"ws and was 40" long this was powered by
a cox 15 racing nitro engine connected to a centrifugal system .
the fan unit is shown in foreground - air inlet was under model
to allow starting the nitro motor, both these model had crude AP's
the newer jet had a auto duel rate system .
both models were in the 3 lb range , since these were built in early
70's it was before video .
I thinking of building another x-2 here in the scratch built section
soon to show off our now working centrifugal fan.
tryed to build a new version of this 3 years ago but ran in to problems
now working properly , just needs some more development to increase
top speed , whick is why I'm thinking of building another.

the videos below are of the fan flying

f-16VSSPORTJET.wmv (9 min 37 sec)

90 mm Fly Fly Hawk flying on a centrifugal edf system (8 min 41 sec)

building a seethrough model for testing /demo's will post when complete
