Ya, I was kinda thinking that airspeed might be to slow to make a difference at launch.

I had a couple rough launches before finally getting it in the air.

Do most of you guys throw it more up versus level?

I built a bungee launch for mine. Works great............

Put in trim on second flight mode, switch enabled.

I'm nowhere near as talented as the vast majority of people flying these things on here and launching vertically has always been easy for me, with zero crashes or hairy launches. Even if it torque rolls, it doesn't matter since it's still going straight up.

My FJU is all done... finished it yesterday but the stupid weather/wind but the kibosh on the maiden flight. Today, however, is quite nice so I'm gonna meet a buddy at our field for the maiden. I'm running:

HET 2W-25
Castle ICE 75
APC 6 x 5.5
3s 4000 mAh 25C

It balances right on the money with that big pack, too. I installed the ESC right behind the wing spar. I waited until the very end to glue the turtledeck and fins, as that made it a lot easier to install and set up everything. The heatsink that came with the motor even fits under the turtledeck, albeit barely.

I forgot to bring my wattmeter but I have that same setup in a 60" flying wing and it pulls around 75A on the ground. It moves that wing around pretty good to, so I imagine that same power setup in that slick airframe should be.... spirited performance. Wish me luck!

--I believe I will get the bungee launcher back out and launch it that way, at least initially.

--The 2w25 with finned heatsink on 4s 3000 -3300 6x5.5 is a great high performance setup for 130mph+. After a dozen or so flights, you want to go faster.

--It is a good intermediate setup between sub 120mph and 145mph+.

After seeing Mopar's vid, I thought everyone would use the full torque roll launch technique, way cooler than normal straight out launches.

I had a successful maiden flight!! Even though the plane feels heavy, it sure doesn't fly like it's heavy. It's fast enough that it gets out of sight rather quickly. The 2nd flight had a failed launch and it threw something out of trim as when I got it in the air, it was climbing quite severely. I landed without issue and will give it a once-over before flying again.

I swear this Elapor feels more dense than other Multiplex planes. It seems tough enough that I probably won't have to coat the bottom with thinned-out epoxy.

The speed is good so far, but it's nice to know I can easily go faster if I choose by simply upping the cell count and switching props.

For a vertical launch,it's best to have a bit of power....

Throttle up till you feel it lifting out of your hand,lean back....and throw it straight up,as it leaves your hand,the FJU will torque roll,just let it roll until level...and fly away.

I do have a video of a launch taken from friend.

I've never had a failed launch.

Its WAY better for the epoxy and the foam if you just "paint" on a coat of epoxy and let your heat gun (or hot hair dryer) heat up the epoxy and foam, allowing it to absorb into the foam, creating a very sturdy foam/epoxy matrix thats super tough !!

Thinning out epoxy isnt good, it looses all strength and resiliency, plus you are adding something to thin it out, which alters the physical properties of the epoxy itself, and you could wait weeks for your thinned out epoxy to cure properly (if it can at all).
