The Raven: All Carbon Acro Quad

Raven 320 and Raven 234 frames now available at
FreeBirdRC.com

Here is my new, very much Soma inspired carbon quad frame for acro flying.

It's about 320mm measured diagonally, so it's a little bigger than a Warpquad. It also has a bigger center plate, to allow some extra space for things like bigger recievers, a buzzer, or a voltage alarm, etc. The arms are pre cut to fit Sunnysky 2204's, or any other motor with the same hole pattern.

My idea was to make a "trainer" for Warp class flying. It's actually smaller, and will build out substantially lighter, than my mini v-tail. My mini v-tail with Sunnysky 2204's is the fastest most agile machine I've ever flown so far, so this will be a step up the ladder for me, performance wise.

I had my cutter make 10 sets of parts for me. The parts just arrived, and wow, the quality of the carbon work is simply outstanding. I have never seen nicer carbon. The frame is also amazingly stiff and strong.

I'm extremely busy in my personal life right now, so it may take me a while to get one flying. If anybody is interested, I'd really like to see what some good builder/pilots can do with this airframe. I'd be willing to let a few of these go for $50 each. (Frame only, no hardware.)

However, please don't let me sell you one if you can't promise to build it right away, and post a review with photos and video in this thread.

I'd love to hear your comments guys. What do think about my new frame?

EDIT: Photos of the first completed Raven prototype added to this post.

i'd bite but don't see much point in having a 305mm frame for motors with 6 inch props.

It will fit 7" props, and 2205 or 2206 motors. It would also be possible to shorten the arms at the hub end, and drill new holes. The arms on the Simplecopter mini-v are wider, and it flies excellent on 6" props.

I was deliberately trying for a slightly tamer quad, I guess we will see how well it works when it flies. Here's a top view. I don't think it looks seriously out of proportion with the 6 inchers.

Yes, 8" will fit.

Since nobody seems to like the idea of little 2204's with 6" props on this frame, I'm thinking why not put 2212's with 8" props on it. The esc's would have to be connected to a loom made of 18awg wire in order to squeeze the wire between the plates. I've been doing some research, and 18 gauge is apparently heavy enough for up to 30 amp esc's on a quad.

If I can find the time I'll build out two quads, one with 2204's and one with 2212's. At this point I'd consider GIVING a couple of these frames away, just to see them get built.

The carbon parts weigh 119 grams total. Subtract 4 grams if you don't want to use the gear protector plate.

I would like to build for you. I have some new Dragonfly 1806 2300kv motors that I could try on this frame with 6 inch props if you would like to see them with this config, also have some 2822's 1800 and 1375kv. both of the later two could go 7 or 8 inch props. I would be using afro esc's and a KK2.0
Let me know! I would post a sticky review here: rumblecloudrc.com

Looks good! What thickness are the arms? I'd be interested in building one up with 8" props. I'd use 2208 motors with 20A BS esc's flashed with BLHeli. For the FC i'll use either the acro naze 32 or flip pro
I've built a few

Looks like I've got a couple of volunteers. One to build with 6", and one for 8".

Introductory offer of $50 for a frame is still open.
