Build Log
Boeing 747-8 build

This will be a hybrid build so it has a mixture of materials in it. Approximately 1:36 scale which breaks down to approximately 7ft long by 6.25ft wing span

The plan so far are:
EPP foam fuse formers
Depron foam skins for fuse
Balsa sheeted over depron
Finishing epoxy coated sanded and then painted

The wings will be EPP ribs
2 ply spars with CF reinforcements
Depron foam skin over wings
Balsa layered over the top
Spoilers, Krueger, simple fowler flap plus split fowler flaps
(EPP formers "should" provide me some flex for added cool factor)

Electronics:
2-4 XRP 14 blade fans with 2300kv motors
Unknown count of servos
2 sets of turnigy oleo airline retracts
Sound module maybe
Gear doors
60a esc 2-4
Navi lights

That's all I have so far, I'm winging it to see how everything goes together, wings will probably be plug in wings or the normal split wings.

It should weigh next to nothing so it'll make for a very nice floater

Very nice! I've found that's a scale that's a good comprimise between "big" in the air and small enough to easily store/transport.

I've been trying to 3d it only to come back to the scale stuff so here I am!

I do have a question for you though, on your landing gear bases, are you supporting them with a ply sheet over foam or just blocks of ply attached to foam?

I figure I'm going to try the ply sandwiched in between to disperse the load of impact since I fly off of grass

Nope we just use the same card models :P

This is based off of the 747-400 modified and stretched to a 747-8. So I ended up adding about 6" in fuselage length. When I scaled it up the nacelle will have to be scrapped and scratched since I need to make them slightly bigger to accommodate 70mm fans which might have a ground clearance issue on grass runways if I build it scale

The weight so far is next to none so it kinda makes me want to keep it a depron model so it'll float in scale and slow. Then a part of me wants to make it a balsa sheeted model so I can add in full details.
