Stock OVP(over voltage protection) for the 6650 PSU is around 13.3V.

This simple mod will raise the OVP to 16.5V.

Remove the 5 screws as indicated to remove the back panel.

Locate the leftmost connector on the daughterboard.

Add a 1k resistor in series with the Grey wire.

Voltage will now be adjustable from 3.3V-16.5V(OVP).

There is no UVP on this unit so voltage can be adjusted down to 3.3V at the full 72 amps of current.

I suggest staying below 15.6V as the output capacitors are rated at 16V.

Tested at 15.5v and 72A.

A higher value resistor can raise OVP to above 20V.

The output caps will need to be replaced if voltage goes above 16V !!

Two of these PSUs(at 15.5V) in series(31V) should max out any charger available and will max out most 120V outlets at full power !!

Do this mod at your own risk !!
Hi
I bought two of these PSU on purpose in order to change the Vout but I have not understood how.
I connected a 1K resistor as shown in the post but then, to be able to change the Vout, what should I do?

Thanks

Looking for thoughts as to why I am seeing this variation from 2 different digital multimeters.
PS 1 modified floated - Meter A reads this PS at 12.23v Meter B reads at 10.8v
PS 2 no mod - Meter A reads this PS at 12.25v and Meter B reads at 12.4v
Similarly when the jumper is added for series and 24v, Meter A reads 24.49v and Meter B reads 23.8v.
If I check voltages on batteries both meters read similar voltages, both in the 12v and 24v ranges.
Only when checking the floated PS does Meter B read 1.4v lower than Meter A.
Also, when I plug in 2 different chargers, they show voltage in at 12.33v and 12.38v from the floated PS.
Again, only the one meter and only on the floated PS shows a lower voltage. Can anyone explain this? Thanks in advance.

Puh, huge thread here.

Actually i found this thread cause i'm trying to start/modify and use a DL580 G3 1300W PSU
to power my 12V audio system. Bought this 2 days ago from ebay for 24€ includes shipping.

At the moment i'm reading and reading but the pages will not end. Okay, have to buy a C19 connector but that should not be the problem, also the start connection to PS_ON and PSKILL should work.

Only thing i didn't read so far is if OVP could be disabled.

So i may ask the question to xandrios or any other who knows this. Did you do the job to deactivate the OVP and drive the Voltage to 14.2 V ?

There was a post (#751) from hawkeyefile who wanted to trick the ATM Controller but after this the idea was never seen...

So, if you know a solution to drive the psu to 14+ V it would be great to let me know.

Otherwise maybe an idea that can help me?

Regards

xandrios is long gone from this thread.

I do not recall a specific step-by-step on raising the voltage on these particular supplies.

He did get it to 13.2V but did not ever manage to get the OVP disabled as far as I know.

Useful posts are:

579 xandrios states it can be done
599 he gives general instructions

633 xandrios says he got it to 13.2V but could not disable OVP

Hello.
I use 2 Poweredge 2800 to feed my PL8.
With no load they have 23.98v. When i push 700w or more the voltage drops to 23.5v.
I read many posts but i cant find something for the poweredge2800 to push the voltage...
Is there a way to set the voltage higher?

If someone intrested... The 2 dells have only 58.9
db. In 1m range.

Regards Uwe

Uwe,

I'm very new to this but I have a 2850 that may or may not be similar to your model.

Here is the pinout's for that model. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=513

I have a 2850 and connecting the current share A2 with positive gives a slight bump in voltage. I'm not sure if yours is the exactly the same so do so at your own risk. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...B#post27667927

If that doesn't work maybe one of the internal pots is like the 2850. https://sites.google.com/site/tjingu...ects/server-ps

Hello...
my own risk but it works

I set a Jumper from A2 to Positiv Pole and the voltage jumps from 11.98 to 13.17v.

is this OK or a Problem with the OVP.

Best Regards Uwe

I'm glad it worked .

Sorry I can't help with the OVP question. My voltage only jumped up to 12.57V.

Hello, I've been using your guid to convert this dell JD200. Well, whenever I tried to solder the 100k resistor into the daughterboard for the ovp mod I messed up and just wound up removing the entire daughter board from the unit by desoldering it. What should I do? Is there a work around? I'm using this unit to power a bitcoin miner, which take the 6 pin PciE cables like you see on the graphics cards and stuff, and I'm trying to get max Amy of WATTS out of this thing. Any help is greatly appreciated Thx : )

If you can't resolder it to the motherboard then I guess it is time to buy another power supply.

I must add...I just don't understand why people think it is so important to up the voltage on these. Me? I leave them as designed as I feel little 'ol me is not qualified enough to redesign these things.
